What is this? What is it not?

First off to answer any questions that might be asked after reading this post: NO DEMOS. This is a professional game being made from scratch in a group and it will be sold. So, unless you feel like paying me $50, forget about it.

The thread title is just a codename for the game.

A professional game designer will summarize an entire game idea out before starting development into one word to a small sentence. What's the summary for this game? CUSTOMIZABLE!!!

This game is an RPG. Story? Yes. Following plotline? No, not really. You don't "go from one place to another" in a story sequence. It's a gigantic world, no overworld map to tell you where to go, and events happen all over the world every second such as monster evasions and secret items and special events with NPCs.

You start off with 3 novice characters. You enter their names and edit their base stats with a special balance table, then pick their hairstyle and hair colour and gender. You are then sent to an academy in which each character must undergo a trial in order to obtain job classes. After which, you start the game to go and build your characters however you want to!

Every piece of equipment you put on your characters will actually show up on the sprite itself as you walk. The games graphics are in polygonal 2D to provide a very detailed and beautiful environment with great sprites.

There are, in total... 31 job classes.

Battle mode is in a seperate battlescreen with active real-time gameplay. When a monster attacks you on the field, a battle is activated.

That's pretty much the basics of the game.

(I apologise beforehand for the content of this post. Reading yours has instilled me with anger because it looks like you're taking wonderful ideas but not going anywhere with them. Someone please invent the "stab over int4rnet" button so I can die already. That's the gist of it, so you don't have to read my self-regretted rant.)

That's nice. Some information, and the hard and fast promise that we're going to have to pay to play the game. So... I like your concepts. But that's all you've shown us, concepts. I expect that you don't want to release screenies yet either to avoid your graphics stolen. Logical concerns, as well as the demo thing. But they also lead me to the cynical thought that you're not really making this game, or even seriously planning to. No proof or anything.

Well, okay. That was harsher than I meant to be. Maybe you're making a game.

"A professional game designer will summarize an entire game idea out before starting development into one word to a small sentence. What's the summary for this game? CUSTOMIZABLE!!!"
Customizable for whom? And in what ways? So you can customize your characters, that's explained. You can even pick hairstyles, omg now I want a Sephiroth character. Whee. You can take many, many different routes through the game. So I suppose what you may have meant was, "A different playing experience every time." Or the likes.

Hmm. Before starting development. So, is this game in the:
a) "Worked on and nearly finished" stage?
b) "Looking for a team" stage?
c) "Drawing Board" stage?
d) "Begun but a long way away" stage?

"a very detailed and beautiful environment with great sprites"

I trust you. Please, show me some detailed and beautiful environments along with equipment-modular sprites.

31 job classes. Neat. Examples?

Upon more thought, this looks like an advertisement for your project so that people will fork over $50. Moreso than it looks like a serious display of features, or even a game that will come to fruition.

Not really, I just moreso vented out the idea because I didn't want to keep it in. First off, about price, I just wanted to get the "idea" going about it. No one on this board will ever be able to play it when it's finished, most likely, as my business is a local one only and we're not marketing outside of it. We might do so sometime but I doubt it.

Now, about development. We're just starting but every worker is being paid. That is, every local worker. Volunteer workers are not getting paid but get a free copy of the game. So, this game will most likely not be given up considering this is my goal for about three years from now (when I finish college I must immediately have experience as a business administrator or I will not fully graduate).

Next, I know it is quite silly to make a thread saying "We're doing this but you can't know about it." Why can't you know anything? No business should ever give out information during this process. That's why people say I make a good project leader, because I don't do it.

We're in the Design Document stage. If you know a lot about game industry business you'll know what that means.

I can, however, in the future, give you information firsthand about this game project when it gets near to release. This thread, as I mentioned, is supposed to be a "heads up", kind of like "OMG THERE'S A FINAL FANTASY MOVIE COMING OUT" and look how long they waited, but had no information on it for quite a long time.

Depending on how sales go locally, you might actually gain a copy of this game. That's a false prediction though as that will be around 3 or 4 years from now.

Alright, then. I suppose this thread will have significance after three or four years. See you then. Good luck with this.
