Aaron was walking down the street staring at his feet, Pondering the mishaps of those passing him by on the road. He aim a searing glare at the poor, unfortunate souls, who had the misfortune of even casting a mere glance in his direction. He didn't know where he was. He was lost. And he didn't even care. As apathy filled his heart, he glanced carelessy around at the surrounding buildings, His dark abyss of black hair falling over his deep emerald green eyes. As the memory of the fight filled his mind, he was again engulfed in anger. He whirled around furiously, and sat down at a bus stop, deciding that since he had nothing better to do, he might as well go somewhere.

It had been another long day. School had started up again, the ruthless machine that students subjected themselves to by choice, whether because they thought it would do their future some good, or because they enjoyed the social opportunities it provided them. Rae had just gotten out of school for the day, and was making her way to the bus stop so that she could finally go home.

The rain had started in about an hour before, when she was still sitting in her 6th period math class. Since High School had started, math had been an issue for her and she often found herself staring out of the window at distant apartment buildings or pondering how long her nap would be after she returned home. It wasn't very often that she was found doing math in math class.

Unlike the usual summer weather that had been hanging around, the rain started off as a light mist, accompanied by fog, before it began to pour down relentlessly from the dismal heavens. Putting her black hood up over her split feline-like ears, she ventured out into the nasty weather and soon found herself standing at her normal bus stop next to a ominous looking figure. Readjusting her shoulder bag, she leaned against the wall next to his seat, trying not to stare at him.

At her school, he would have been easily classified as an 'emo' or a 'goth' due to his dark appearance. A real nobody. Rae never judged people so harshly, she found that there was no need for it. People should be judged by what's on the inside, not the outside, right? Though on the outside, this guy didn't look very happy or very friendly, for that matter, and she guessed that within him there was a turmoil that went so deep, it had began to manifest itself on his outside as well.

Normally, Rae would keep to herself in situations like this, but the man's attire fascinated her. She herself was wearing a black t-shirt underneath her black sweatshirt, black pants that had zippers on the bottom of each leg [as to give the pant more of a flared shape and to reveal fishnet-like material], and her black boots. She took interest in his pants in particular, as awkward as that might have been, though they were black with orange stitching. She couldn't see his eyes, for his ebon hair was covering them, but she decided to try and speak to him anyway.

"I like your pants," she said bluntly, as though it was something that was said all the time.

Aaron glanced, startled at the appearance of the person next to him. The rain, which was now falling in sheets, had shielded her approach from his view. This was the sort of weather he liked. The rain falling down in torrents, the wind wipping at your clothes in anger, the gray sky staring coldly back at anyone who glanced up, as if to tell the viewer that it was all pointless, that this was the way it was, and that this was the way it would stay.

Aaron regarded the individual next to him. Even though an interest as to who this person was had arrisen, He was still disgruntled to have his thoughts disturbed by this person to whom he had no connection to. He brushed his hair out of his eyes, sending a small splash of rain drops skittering away. He spent a few moments considering his alternative.

Just what I need he thought angrily to himself. One more person. One person to tell me I have issues.

He contemplated the best possible route of removing himself from this persons presence, and determined that the best move was to just respond.

Thanks. He responded, the words coming out harshly, his eyes shining with suspision as he hoped that this was the end of their short aquiantance.

The boy looked at her and seemed surprised to see someone standing so close to him, and even more surprised that someone would be talking to him. One of her black and red striped ears twitched idly and she offered half of a smile. Perhaps it would reassure him. Of what exactly, she wasn't sure.

As the boy stirred, she caught a glimpse of his emerald orbs before returning her gaze to the harsh world outside of the protection of the booth. So colorful, compared to everything else about him... she thought randomly to herself. The boy was keeping his distance from her, and why shouldn't he? It just wasn't normal for someone to come up and say you've got nice pants, and then all of a sudden become your best friend. "You're welcome," she replied without much emotion, her olive eyes still fixed on the falling rain.

Seeming to snap out of her daze, she turned her attention back to the melancholy boy. "So..." she drawled aimlessly, sounding like one of the absent-minded bimbos at school that she so despised, "What is your name, anyway?"

Aaron sighed inwardly, realizing that yet again, he had failed in his attempt to avoid socialization. His eyes desperately skimmed down the road, hoping that in the distant they would spot the approach of the vehicle that would end this charade before it ever began. Unfortunately, the rain shrouded whatever slim view of the horizon that he may of had, And he was forced to return his attentions to handling the conversation that had been presented to him.

Grudgingly he turned to face the girl, his eyes narrowing in annoyance, although it was obvious that he was making an attempt to conceal it. In a normal situation, he would have just walked away, found another bus stop, done everything possible to avoid a conversation, no matter how inevitable the occurance of the conversation appeared to be. But for reasons unknown to him, he was drawn to do the very thing that was annoying him.

Of course, this wasn't the first time. There had been others. Other people, other bus stops. Other whims and desires that he had unfortunately caved in to. And they had all lead to the same thing. The scorn and hate of a fellow being. It was inevitable to him. It was how the water of life flowed. Yet, even as he knew this, He opened his mouth and said , Aaron. My names Aaron. He paused, Cautioning himself, warning himself not to go farther. It was a bad idea. But he couldn't resist. Even as he was bothered, he was pleased. What about you?

Aaron seemed to be having a world of trouble replying to her, and even shot her a nasty glare from behind his black lockes. She resisted the urge to return the glare, as she would have in many instances, and simply waited for his response. Aaron... she ran the name over in her mind a few times before looking at him again. It was obvious that she was annoying the hell out of him just by being there, but there wasn't much she could do about that. Besides, what did she have to apologize for? 'Oh, sorry, I didn't realize I was ruining your life by saying hello for Chrissakes.' The truth was, that she could be the same way.

"I'm Rae." Her answer was as short as the other statements she'd made, but was followed up by another. "Where are you going? Why the hell was she being so nosey? And where the hell was that bus, anyway? Maybe the bad weather had delayed it...but that was just stupid. Looking down the street, there was no sign of its white headlights cutting through the rain. With a sigh, she needlessly readjusted her shoulderbag again, and sat down beside Aaron, careful not to sit on her striped tail that matched her ears. Maybe they would get an actual conversation going, and if not, at least the bus would eventually arrive to save them both from eachother.

Aaron's antisocial nature was starting to relax, and as he sat back to wait for the bus, he found that albiet it was masked by apathy and annoyance, deep down there was an ounce of him that was slightly enjoying this encounter.

After all , he thought to himself, I don't really have anything to do with my time.

With the earlier happenings of the day still freshly in his memory, and his desire to just go, Not caring where, He pondered over the question. He in reality had no idea where he was going, or what he would do when he go there, he just knew that he was going. He shivered slightly against the cold, his tee shirt offering little defense against the chilling bite of the wind.

I have no idea he said, not even attempting to simulate even a slight pretense of knowing where he was going. It wasn't like he cared where he was going. It didn't matter. He smirked slightly as he spotted her shoulder bag, knowing what that signified. He himself could distinctly remember the awful days spent pent up in a room full of 20 - 30 hominids with an authoritive figure standing in front of the room droning on and on about pointless material that would never be used in every day life, regardless of what they wanted everyone to believe. It was just a waste of his time.

Just come from school? he asked staring coldly out into the rain, shocked that he had initiated a continuation of the conversation. He normally despised these sort of people. The ones who want to know everything about you, as soon as you mention that you have a name, or something to be known. Yet somehow, even though this was the impression he got from her so far, something was telling him he was wrong.

A cold gust of wind managed to penetrate the somewhat protective shelter of the booth, sending a chill through the bones of everyone within. Weaving her hands into her sleeves, Rae locked the cold out for the most part and was content in her heavy sweatshirt. Aaron didn't look so comfortable in just his t-shirt, and she wondered why he hadn't brought a jacket along. Figuring she had asked him enough annoying questions, she let this one leave her mind without first exiting through her mouth.

No idea where he's going? she thought, What a waste of money then to spend on the bus. Why not just stay here? Why she was always making other people's business her business was a mystery to even herself, though it was something she caught herself doing all too often. Scoffing lightly at his remark regarding school, she replied with a less than enthused expression. "Pft, yeah. School. What a blast..." She guessed that Aaron was around her age, and had either dropped out of school, or just decided not to attend. She sometimes found herself considering doing the same thing, though she knew she never would.

An awkward silence engulfed the two of them again with only the soft pitter patter of the rain to remind them that time was still moving. Before either of them could say another word to eachother [as if they were anticipating it], the familiar hissing sound of the bus's exhaust was heard, coming up the street as both of them had hoped it would. The neon orange '53A' sign like a beacon through the storm, Rae jumped to her feet and turned to Aaron. "Well, that's my bus. It was nice meeting you n' all," she said, and with a slight nod of her head in his direction, she boarded the bus and took her seat.

Aaron looked at the bus that had just stopped in front of them, and realized that as startling as it was to him, he was sort of woebegone to have the conversation end. Glancing around, he came to the conclusion that, as it was probably warm on the bus, and sheltered, this was as good a bus as any to go somewhere that didn't matter.

His mind made up, he tailed after Rae catiously onto the bus. Yea this is my bus, too He said, as his senses took in the atmosphere of the bus. The driver apeared to be irritated, impatient, wanting the end of the day to come quick, so that he could go home to the life he didn't have. At the back of the bus was where the bums were. Those that could afford the mear 1.50 it cost to get on. Here and there, was the occasional person sitting staring out their own windows, Their thoughts locked in their head, the faces unreadable.

Aaron always loved the city bus. This was a place where one could sit by oneself, and noone would think any less of them. Or anymore for that matter. On the bus you weren't that emo kid, or the problem child. In fact, on the bus you weren't anyone. You just were. That was what Aaron liked. After taking in the bus with his roving eyes, he chose an empty seat and sat down, Oddly hoping that Rae, under some whim unbeknownst to anyone, would choose to sit next to him.

She couldn't help but smile as Aaron followed her onto the bus. Sure, he had no where else to go, but this was just proof, at least in her mind, that he enjoyed her company enough to follow her onto the bus. After all, how could this particular bus be his, if he had no idea where he was going? Though she had to admit, she had been enjoying his company as well, as odd as that was for having just met him.

The seat he had chosen was on the other side of the bus and back a ways, though something told Rae that she should go sit with him. Maybe it was because he seemed to be calling out to her, without the aid of words, but rather through his actions of following her onto the bus. He needed friends as much as anyone else, and right now, it didn't seem like he had any to speak of. A friendly acquaintance, though not necessarily a friend, was better than having no one at all [or so Rae figured], so she picked up her backpack and moved past the blank faces to sit beside him. Even if her intuition had been wrong, sitting next to Aaron still beat sitting next to some fat and smelly guy. You never knew who was going to sit next to you on the bus.

Setting her backpack down again between her feet, her tail curled contentedly. Thankfully, the inside of the bus was much warmer than outside, and dryer too. A few stops passed, and hers was nearing. She wondered where Aaron would be getting off at. It was none of her business anyway, and he had already said that he had no idea where he was going, so she bit her tongue once again. Absent-mindedly tapping her foot, she wondered if Aaron would say anything to her before she had to leave.

Aaron glanced quickly at Rae as she sat down next to him. He was relieved that he wasn't going to have to be the one to inaugurate a farthering of their conversation. He was scandalized at how willing he found himself to communicate with this stranger he hadn't even known for a whole day. Yet strangely enough, there was a desire to befriend her. Aaron was appalled at that thought. he didn't need a friend. He never had. He could get by just fine on his own. Nevertheless, he was drawn to establishing a friendship with her; like a moth is irresitably drawn to the heat of a burning light bulb. And he knew, that just like the moth when it touches the bulb, he would get hurt. Yet this was one light bulb that this little moth couldn't refuse.

Aaron tossed a look around the bus, trying to think of a topic to chat about.
Why is this so hard?! He thought furiously to himself. He had never before taken a notice to how hard speech was, for he had never had the need to. He had never cared for talking to people, which made it easy to ignore its difficulties.

The warmth of the bus was slowly improving his mood. He wanted to say something to Rae before her bus stop arrived, but he just didn't know what. Why was he so interested? It was unlike him to say so much as two sentences in a day, Let alone carry out a whole conversation. With someone he just met, too!

Deciding that the best course of action was to stick with small talk, he ackwardly asked So uh....What's your favorite subject? As soon as he said it, he regreted it. It was the most dimwitted thing he could have ever said. It was obvious that conversation was not in his area's of strengths.

Inside her mind, she was grinning like a fool. He needed her, she had become a craving to him, and without her, who knew what would happen? Hell, he might even follow her home, because the idea of the two of them just parting ways when her stop came was unthinkable. She, too, needed him in a way, though probably not as bad. She didn't need anybody that bad. Not any one person...

Her olive eyes rolled cautiously to the side to observe the boy as he struggled to think of something to say, and wondered if he would ever say anything, at least before her stop came. Not meaning to stare, her eyes quickly navigated to a different part of the bus, and settled on a piece of turquoise gum that was stuck to the floor not far from her left boot.

Finally! The boy said something, awkward as it was. I s'pose I would have said something similar...if I were a complete recluse... Though not the most polite of thoughts, she let her mouth form into a half-smile out of pure amusement. "Favorite subject? Welllll.... I'd have to say... Chemistry. You can do some pretty awesome stuff in that class, long as you know what you're doing."

Before Aaron could bother himself with thinking of something else to say, the familiar screech of the brakes made itself known in the period of silence, indicating that once again, Rae had reached her stop without even having to pull the cord, as she rode the bus enough and the driver knew her well enough. Now would be the actual test: was Aaron really following her, or was it mere coincidence that they chose the same bus? "Well, once again it's been nice, but this is my stop." With that, she stood up and walked down the middle of the aisle, past all of the nobodies who were but a blur in her world now. All that mattered was that she was home. Before stepping off the bus, she turned back to Aaron and simply said, "Maybe see you around sometime!" and with a flick of her striped tail, she was gone.

Chemistry. So that was her favorite class. He shrugged noncommittally. He supposed it was a pretty cool class, But he had never taken it, so he couldn't possibly know for sure. His favorite class, when he had been in school of course, had been psychology. In his opinion, there was nothing more superior than studying the human mind, and its manipulation's of the emotions and behavoir. But chemistry, from what he knew, was also pretty cool.

He was trying to think of something witty to say, anything, to keep the conversation moving, even if it was a rough journey for the conversation, when the bus started to slow.

Dammit! Dammit, dammit, dammit! he frustratedly thought to himself as Rae stood up to get off. Yea, Maybe. Have a good day He said sullenly, their conversation ending with her departure. As she left a thought skittered across his mind, like a rat in the dark looking for something to eat. That was the most contact I've had with anyone aside from my parents for a long time. Clinging desperately to that thought, He pulled out his MP3 and thinkin to himself I should go after her, " he started blasting the song "Good to know that if I ever need attention all I have to do is die" by Brand New. He wanted to continue to talk, even if it was for even a few moments more. The bus doors started to close, and the bus started to slowly roll away from the stop, as the song was saying " We've been hurting a long time, Trying hard for this, We all have sizeable scars, We got it, You'd break it all apart, We got it".

His mind suddenly made up, He leaped from his seat and bid the driver to stop. Wait! This is my stop! Im getting off here. For a long, horrid moment, Aaron thought the bus was going to keep going. Keep on rolling away from Rae, and his last chance to grasp the humanity that had been his gift at birth would disapear with the fading person in the rear view mirror. But that moment soon passed, and the bus rolled two its second stop within a few moments time. With a glared that would have killed the normal man, the bus driver opened the doors to the bus. If looks could kill, I'd be slaughtered. He thought to himself, as he rushed off the bus.

He looked in the direction that Rae was walking, and was suddenly overcome with a case of bad nerves. she's gunna think I'm stalking her or something. He thought pathetically to himself, now wishing that he had just stayed on the bus, and not entirely sure what tempted him to leave the safety of its confines. She's probably already seen me get off, I have no choice but to continue our conversation. I could always walk in the other direction though.... he thought miserably, as he tried to decide what to do. He realized now how foolish he had been. She probably found him an incompetent fool anyways. And he would have just proven her right.

Stepping off of the bus, her booted foot landed in the middle of a large puddle, which soon soaked through to her striped sock. Fuck! Why the hell did that jackass have to pull right up the puddle!? She should have known that it was there, after all, it had been raining all afternoon. It just went to show how unobservant she could be, even to the blatantly obvious.

Walking up the sidewalk towards her house, she turned around to watch the bus drive away, perhaps even catching a last glimpse at that awkward and lonesome kid through the window. No luck. He must have switched seats after she got off. Just as well, he wasn't much into conversation anyway. Perhaps she was wrong in thinking that he had enjoyed her company. Turning around, she continued on her way up the street, her boot making a sickening squish every time she stepped with her right foot.

Her split ears twitched as the ever-so annoying screech of the bus's breaks made it known again that the vehicle was making a stop. Turning slightly irritated towards the bus, she was surprised to see Aaron running off the bus and just stop, not walking one way or the other. She hadn't expected to see him that soon, but in a way, she was relieved that he had decided to follow her after all. Cocking an eyebrow with interest, her tail flicked back and forth as she readjusted her backpack again.

"So, you decided to get off here, too?" she called out to him. The answer to her question was so obvious that there was no need even for the question to be asked, but she did anyway. Why's he standing so far away? Christ! It's not like there's anyone over there to talk to. Flicking her tail somewhat impatiently, she waited for him to hurry up and stop messing around.

Aaron turned a slight shade of crimson and glanced up as he heard her call out to him. Shouting at himself for his stupidity inside his mind, he slowly turned and trotted up to where Rae stood. Uh yea, I decided that this stop was as good as any By now he was mentally punching himself. How could this person stand him?! Why doesn't she just tell me to buzz off. If some weird kid I had just met was following me, I'd give them the what for. She can't possibly be enjoying my company. I should just leave before I make an even bigger fool of myself.

Looking nervously around, trying to find an escape to the situation he had gotten himself into. He could tell she was slightly annoyed. Not that I wouldn't be annoyed if someone attached themselves to me within a few moments of meeting me. God, what's wrong with me?! He thought to himself, expressing only exhasperation to himself.

He suddenly noticed that the rain that had previously been pouring down in water falls, was now nothing more than a slight sprinkle that one could barely feel. You had to pay close attention to realize it even existed. Sort of like me With that thought, a look of depression flashed across his face, only to be smothered moments later by that same facade that hid the secrets he kept locked inside his heart.

So uh where you headin? He asked in an attempt to not look like so much of a fool. Even though he knew it was hopeless, it never hurt to try. He hoped.

When he finally caught up to her, she turned away to stare in the direction she'd be headed, causing her long bangs to fall over her face and shade her eyes. A slight smirk lingered on her features, though Aaron would be oblivious to it as it was hidden by her hair. The rain had stopped, and was now nothing more than a fine mist, though the sky was still dark and gray as ever.

"Somethin' wrong?" She asked, peering out at him from behind her dark lockes. His face had gone red with embarrassment, and she thought that changing the subject may be a good idea. Starting off in the direction she was going before the bus had stopped, she began walking, slowly at first, to make sure Aaron would follow. Her shoulderbag bounced against her side and her tail swayed back and forth as she walked.

"I was thinking of walking down to the gas station to pick up a Coke. Care to tag along?" she asked without turning her head, but rather, while staring at him from the corner of her olive eyes.Of course he did. He was still following her, after all, though she had to admit, it felt good to feel wanted.

Aaron tried to get a grip on himself as he started to walk with her. It was not easy for him, considering his interaction with others had been limited. He started to nervously fidget with his shirt in an attempt to distract himself from how out of character this all was. Ahh who are you kidding? You scared out your mind. With this thought in mind he let out a sarcastic laugh. His blood- pressure was up, and he knew it.

Snapping his attention back to Rae, He stammered out, " Nope, everythings good here. I wouldn't mind getting a drink myself."

He could not see, but could guess that she was staring at him out of the corner of her eyes, and he knew that he should have stayed on the bus. Looking down at his feet, he continued on his walk. She probably thinks I'm weird. Hell, I would think I'm weird. In fact, I do think I'm weird. Cutting his thoughts off before he convinced himself of his huge mistake, he continued walking.
