Yeah, I know that this has been asked for before, but it never got Fu to do anything. But I seriously think it will benifit everyone if you release Lunar Magic's source code under the GNU GPL, especially for the following reasons:
1. The hacking community can fix bugs in Lunar Magic. (Fu, we know you won't do anything now unless it's super-major) 2. We could add features to Lunar Magic. It's a bit hard at this stage to think of new features to add.... but here's one: Suppose someone were to put music editing in Lunar Magic. How cool would that be? 3. Support for more ROMs... LM only likes absolute perfect-condition ROMs. Bad dumps and the such aren't so supported. Also, perhaps someday even SMA2MW would be supported. 4. Support for non-Windows platforms. On the x86, *nix users could use Wine to run Lunar Magic. Now this often reveals bugs never seen on Windows. Wouldn't it be nice if those were fixed, or even if Lunar Magic were turned into a native application? We could even support OS/2, Mac OS, BeOS, whatever as long as someone'd be willing to do it. |

Originally posted by FreeDOS Of course they're not. They're called bad dumps for a reason, you know. In fact, bad dumps need to get the hell off all ROM sites. And Fu has stated repeatedly that he is not going to release the source. There's no need to add new features to LM anyhow, except perhaps Layer 3 editing, but that has not been looked into at all and I doubt it ever will. Everything else can be handled by other programs. |

Originally posted by asdfOriginally posted by FreeDOS So who said that ROM sites are the only place you can get ROMs? The physical dumpers have enough problems already. Take my recent case... GoodSNES reported my dump as "perfect" (with the wonderful (!) thing), but Lunar Magic wouldn't open. For the hell of it, I re-dumped my catridge. Whoa, there's a few bytes difference. And GoodSNES still reports it as "perfect", and Lunar Magic now opens the re-dump. Looks like GoodSNES has a problem with CRC collisions, eh? This is a huge problem because if you *think* you have a "perfect" dump, you may actually not. |

It'll never happen. End of discussion.

Originally posted by FreeDOS Okay, so let's say LM does open bad ROMs, and you base your hack on this particular one. What happens if you create an IPS, and because of the few bytes' difference, it doesn't work properly when applied to a good ROM? Are you going to force everyone to find this obscure bad dump, or just distribute the ROM yourself (which is obviously illegal)? |

The chance of Lunar Magic's source being released decreases with every thread posted on the subject.

Originally posted by asdfOriginally posted by Kailieann Logical uses could, theoretically, include being able to see what the hell you're doing on the overworld editor. A grid function would also be nice. (edited by Kailieann on 11-20-05 01:37 PM) |

Damn, someone is asking this question again?!
Yeeeeesh. Anyhow, rather then worry about the source code, just start from scratch to make an editor, yes i know thats allot of work, but its better then bugging for something your not going to get. |

Windows comes with a program which creates a window at the top containing a zoomed in version of where the mouse is. It's called "Screen magnifyer" or something like that. (I've got a swedish version, so I'm not sure about the english name)

asdf: How am I supposed to find _another_ download if I didn't download the first dump? Not everyone has to obtain SMW illegally, you know
BMF: Likewise, they can't just find my bad dump... especially if GoodSNES marks it perfect (!) for one, and secondly if I dumped it myself. (Damn hardware... it never seems to dump right) Oh yeah, Smallhacker, not everyone has a magnifier... either because they removed it from Windows (yes it's possible, I'm not going into further detail than nLite), or they're not even on an OS that has a mangnifier to begin with (yes, there's a thing called Wine that lets you run Windows programs on Unix-like OSes on x86 hardware) (edited by FreeDOS on 11-18-05 11:15 AM) |

Or they don't like programs that magnify everything when they only want to zoom in on one part of one window. (edited by Kailieann on 11-20-05 01:40 PM) |

Or they don't like that the magnifier fucks with the screen space so violently.
Totally agree on the grid idea BTW. LM is awesome but there's a lot that could be added and/or improved. |
