This is probably going to sound noobish, but I'm going to say it anyway.
I'm making a decision about if I should changed Mario's SMW GFX to one from another Mario game. I was thinking of using the graphics from SMB1 from SMAS because I know many hacks contain the GFX from SMB3. Also, I was thinking of using sprites from SML2 (since I already have some SML2 ExGFX in my hack.)
Do you guys used spritesheets and copy the sprites to YY-CHR or is there another way to insert the sprites? Also, does anybody have any .zip files for Mario graphics of any game? SMB 1 or SMB 3 would be ok.

I usually use the Tile Layer Pro to edit (pixel by pixel) tiles in my hack. Try that tool.

And if you want sprites look at www.gsarchives.net. Maybe there are what you are looking for.

P.D: I need help with the AllGFX.bin file. Why it doesn't appear when I extract files from my hack?

Schnauzer: If you're using Lunar Magic, go to the level editing mode, options, find "Use Joined GFX Files", and click that. When you extract/ insert the GFX it should come up in the Graphics folder. Hope that helps.

No, you should never use spritesheets.

Open AllGFX.bin in YY-Chr, and then open the ROM in YY-Chr, find the Mario tiles in the ROM you want to copy, and paste them into AllGFX.bin. And don't forget to copy the palette over too.

And some advice - don't rip SML2 GFX. Although they're not commonly used, they don't look good, in my opinion. Also, SMB1 GFX fit very well with SMB2 GFX.

I'll see what I can do when I get home from work...

My method for changing Mario's graphics is:

-Change the palatte in Lunar Magic to the new colors you need (I've heard, however, that you shouldn't touch the three shades of brown at the beginning, since they're used for some blocks)
-Save the palatte to an external file (using Lunar Magic, as a .tpl file)
-Load AllGFX and the palatte in Tile Layer Pro, and switch to the palatte you just changed
-Using a spritesheet, copy the tile you want to use and save it as a separate image file(the dimensions should be in multiples of 4). For example, if you wanted a new sprite of Mario ducking, copy the 16x16 tile of Mario ducking from the spritesheet and save it as a separate image file (I think it has to be a bitmap)
-Using Tile Layer Pro, import the tile and paste it to the spot you want to replace. Going with the above example, you would import the new "ducking" sprite and drag and place it over the old ducking sprite.
-Since the colors of your sprite are messed up, just draw the correct colors over the "bad" colors.

This method might be a bit more complicated than one of the above poster's method, but I think it's better because it's easier to recolor a sprite than draw it from scratch. (I hope that explanation wasn't too complicated...)

As for the spritesheet, I find that http://www.spriters-resource.com is a good resource for game sprites.

Thanks Ndude, I'll try and then I come if I had problems.

Another question: why I can't edit the last 8x8 tile with TLP, the one who correspond to the apple that Yoshi eats?

I think you should redraw every Mario tile. I always like seeing that, and it's what I'm going to do soon.
