Heh, I just found another disabled debugging feature, shown in an old SMW commercial: the ability to walk on unrevealed paths on the overworld! This is much easier and quicker to use than the old Start + Select code, since you don't have to enter every level. It's activated like so:

- Open the ROM in a hex editor.
- Go to $21491. You should see "EA EA EA" (three NOPs, which often indicates where code was removed).
- Replace this with "4C AF 92" (JMP $92AF).
- Debug!

You can also use the codes 0492914C + 049292AF + 04929392 if you don't want to change the ROM.

Enjoy!

Very nice work BMF, this could be used to make a platform RPG in a sense.

Er, I suppose I should clarify: it doesn't allow you to walk anywhere, it just allows you to walk on paths that haven't been revealed yet (as though every level had all 4 "Enable xx" direction bits set). I've changed the title to reflect this.

I thought you made it quite clear in your post actually. Good job, this forum is getting more readable every day ;p

Hmm, looks like it doesn't let you access the Star Road path, as it makes you enter a different level... Also, the door after the castle of world 2 still blocks your way.

Still, nice find.

Cool, this certainly makes testing a little easier. Easier than my level select block.

Sorry, wasn't thinking straight when I read that. But would it be possible to trick the game into thinking every area was an unrevealed path? That way you could make it possible to walk across the entire overworld like an RPG.

I actually tried to make an RPG OW about 2 years ago... It can be done, but its not as pretty as you might think. Just make a level tile, check the boxes for level already passed, and cannot reenter once beaten. Like the switch palaces after you beat them. Place these tiles EVERYWHERE that is passable (everywhere except cliffs, water, lava, whatever. And for towns I used either like the cave tiles, where you auto-enter another town, or I used star road tiles, where you press a button to enter the town. And of course for star tiles, you can enter the town name. But, as stated, with fixed 16x16 movements, and it won't leave mario facing left/right/up, he'll always face down every step; its not a pretty sight. But just thought I'd mention it if it helps. Sorry its kinda off topic, just answering another question in the thread.

You need to clarify another thing:
This code doesn't work for Star Roads. (Since Star Road has level)
(edit) Sorry I didn't see an existing post.
My advise is to use both this one and the 00A26800 and 00A27300 thingy.
