I like how, despite there being 12 "don't do it/don't care" votes, not a single post in this thread has expressed it...

I'm supporting the complete 'approval only' course at this point; I think it should be given a realistic chance, at least. I also wonder how setz' suggestion of just making it so you have to be approved to create a thread would work out. I can see it putting a stop to most of the stupid threads being created recently, but I can also see the idiots starting to tag their questions onto existing threads, searching *way* down the list for anything remotely relating to their question, and bumping that thread to ask it.

My only problem is just that -- threads would almost definitely be hijacked by some idiot who wanted to post. :/

Yes.

Maybe this will stop these this stupid threads because they didn't want to bother to read the stickies.

I was sorta pushing towards that with my post. But then again, I was pushing a bit in the other direction as well. Meh.

My vote is no, though really more on the "meh" side- honestly, I don't think it'll affect much. I mean, we have a few problems, but the approval process is loose enough that some of those problems will still get through. It's not like we're in the level of crisis that Pokemon Hacking and SMW Hacking were with bad threads.

Though, as I said it's more of a meh- one good thing about this board being approval-only is that it'll probably keep the idiots who post threads like "i can't post in the pokemon forum so ill juzt post my q here; wtf iz a rom?//??" out.

Well, another thing is that if people do slip by, we can remove them afterwards. Approval isn't permanent.

I voted no a while ago, but leaning to the Meh side.

Thing is have you considered where these noobish posts will go? noobs have to go somewhere and they'll probably spam other forums like general discussion, or even the gaming forums.

Also with some genuine users who ain't hackers, who would just like to comment on a hack which has been posted in this forums, like super metroid redesign, have to wait before they can do that, The process of registering to post at the boards takes like 2 seconds, I wouldn't expect myself to introduce to a community of people who I don't even know right at the start just so i can comment on a hack, but then i'm more of the quiet type.

If this approval thing keeps up, you might as well make it so the whole board is approval only, which just sounds ridiculous.

I was actually considering a non-approval forum strictly for hack releases or demos -- that way, people could still comment but actual, you konw, hacking, would be limited to non-retarded discussion.

Shrug.

As a lurker who reads these forums fairly regularly.. I voted yes, because damn it I don't want to sort through a wave of crap just to find the interesting stuff.

There is nothing wrong with someone new trying to learn.. However, you seem to be mistaken here, the IDIOTIC behavior that seems to run rampant here sometimes, just "happens" to involve new people sometimes.. Honestly, you -can- be new and intelligent sounding, you know?

And for god sakes, it only takes you a few freaking minutes to fill out a form asking for approval. If you don't have patience enough to do that, you are NOT a ROM Hacker to begin with! This is a field that thrives on patience.. And it is ridiculous to suggest that approval is even that big of a deal.. Anyone who genuinely CARES and is COHERENT will be granted access in.. what, a day tops maybe? Anyone who is too impatient to fill out a little form or too lazy does not deserve posting rights here to begin with..

That said, this section can be viewed either way.. Approval is just for posting. So if you're not here to hack, you can still enjoy the content being posted and don't "need" approval anyway..

Which is why the n00bs who voted NO and didn't post about it give us all the more reason to make this. If they're too lazy to care about making an opinion, they're WAY too lazy to make it good.

I haven't voted, but I completely support the idea - after seeing some of the latest posts here I really feel this needs approval (and did from the beginning). The n00bs already managed to shut down General Hacking, I don't want to see them do this with ROM Hacking too.

This is actually a very good point- note that the Pokemon Hackers and such posted threads here once Pokemon Hacking had restrictions put on it.

Right, and most of them post either a one word/sentence post, or stupid spam. See the last 3 pages of the old SM64 hacking thread. Or many of the posts in the new thread. Stuff like:

omg how do you do tat?... or

how do i make gs codes so i can't make bowserr purple?

So it's pretty much a lack of looking for a thread, reading the FAQ, and not looking at the stickes.

God yes... I am tired of clicking on, what seem to be promising titled threads and just bashing my brains out, because somebody left their common sense inside their mother's womb...

I just want to see a hacking thread full of people, who actually know what the hell they're doing.
