It just needs to be done, the approval system isn't so hard as to not spend a few minutes as a new person to introduce yourself, and this prevents people from posting SMW/Pokemon questions here just because they are not approved to post in those respective forums. | I'd say maybe it's a better idea to make posting threads (as opposed to replying to them) approve-only, because this forum has a fair bit of lurkers, who may not want to wait for the approval before giving feedback on an editor/hack, or asking for help, etc. Because while it's not hard to make an approval thread, sometimes us adminitators are too busy banning idiots who post llama porn to approve users. I also approve of a 48-hour lurking period before a user can even post, or possibly even only 24-hours. I'm not particularly for the idea, but not against it. Leaning closer to for than against.
[edit] I have to admit, because of the approval only (I suppose) I can actually browse the SMW forums without feeling like an idiot now, however it seems to be having detrimental effects on this forum (such as SMW and pokemon threads being posted here, as if this weren't a "general rom hacking" forum, and more of a "We're rejects" forum) (edited by setz on 09-30-06 12:57 AM) |

| But for the pending approval, there is the problem of us hackers who... well, don't hack much. The progress I'm making on my LoZ : LtTP hack is minimal at best, but still there. Most of the stuff I would post in this forum would be to either give helpful critisisms/suggestions and to answer questions, both of which are valuable assets to hacking. And if I were to post all that in a pending approval forum, I'm not sure that it would be granted.
Admitidly, there is an infestation of 1337-speakers and AIM typers. |

| Yeah I think this needs to be done...There have been alot of people who just came here to get info about Super Mario 64 editor and then when they find out its not open for download anymore they leave or just bug about it. There have been alot of spam as most of you said, pointless questions have been asked over and over, so I think making this forum approve only is a good idea. | |||

| I’m new here, and I voted YES! I read the forums, I looked for my answer, I couldn't find it so I posted. Ok a bit of user error on my part as it turned out but I looked first!
It does seem that I'm one of the rare people that read the rules. I’m hacking SMK, but it’s interesting to read other’s projects and encounters with their hacks. When looking through the forum’s posts there are so many threads that are dead before they start. For example I got all excited to see a thread called SMK only to find its some idiots pointless question. The quality of threads in SMW and Pokemon make it clear this method is best.
