Should I keep flowers and feathers in my game?I don't think so, because they make the game seem too easy. | No, They DO make the game too easy. |

I wanted to hear some other peoples ideas before I added power-ups to the game.

Uhm.. powerups are kinda neccessary... you really expect people to go through levels without being hit at all?! and since the midway point makes you big, you couldn't have those unless you edited the code. So yes. Leave them in.

Keep the flower, ditch the feather.

What I mean is the flower and the feather. I will have Mushrooms though.

Depends on how your levels are designed. If a sky level were to be made; I'd need the cape.

I've had some thoughts about disabling the cape's flying ability, but add a way to reactivate it later in the game.

Hrmmm. I already have several "no-fly zones" in my hack that take away your cape. Maybe I should just get rid of it altogether, except for special areas...or at least disable flying...
[edit] Hmm. I'm certain somebody's already found it, but you can disable gliding by changing $5A6D to 9C. When Mario hits the peak of his flight, he'll simply drop into "float" mode. This would at least prevent people from flying over the whole level. (edited by BMF54123 on 12-05-05 04:48 AM) |

I thought about it...
In my hack I had four levels. In these you could get only one fire flower and no capes, because I think they make the game easy. The fire flower was very hard to get. In my opinion, use them, but make them rare, and hard to find. |

Indifferent with the whole idea. Like any hack, I'll just use the savestate editor whenever I want.

I've actually agreed with the fact that power-ups make these games too easy. I mean... with the cape, and with Yoshi... hey, you're almost invincible if you can play the game right. You can zip through the level faster than anything.
I'd say you should keep them, but in a small and moderate amount. Make them lightly sparce. How does that sound? |

Here's how they make the game too easy.
1.Yoshi can eat enemies, walk over black piranha plants, and if you're hit from underneath, you bounce up without getting hit. 2. Feathers allow you to glide over the level, and hit through blocks/chucks. 3. Fire flowers let you kill all enemies in your path. Those are the reasons I don't want to, but if enough people vote for something, I'll put it in. But then of course, I'd consider the "other" type answers. |

I think that you should make it original and use only the mushroom and flower. No feather.

Originally posted by peter_ac Press Y repeatedly. There's your answer. And floating with the cape isn't that bad if you can come up with some good ideas. Sort of like Parrot Chute Panic from DKC2. Of course, constant demand to float bounce over long distances isn't a very good idea. However, many hack makers believe the cape is broken: and it is. The spin of death and flying over levels pretty much make it a power-up that can easily be abused. Ideally, someone should find out how to make it so that there is a delay between spinning. And even with a Raccoon Mario patch, as I mentioned earlier, upon landing you can immediately "take off" once more, if you're going fast enough. In fact, Raccoon Mario may be slightly cheaper than Cape Mario due to his ability to control his flight a little better. And I do have some tricks with Power-Ups and level design up my sleeve. It's too early to reveal them now, however. (edited by asdf on 12-06-05 04:27 AM) (edited by asdf on 12-06-05 04:27 AM) |

Not to be too off topic but, what DO you change to disable Mario's flying ability and keep the floating aspect?

I've disabled the gliding with the cape But would that mean the flower is better than the cape now? I think I'm going to make them hidden, you have to earn them, but until near the end of the game, you can only get the power-up, then can't go back into the level. Is there a way to disable Yoshi's eating ability?

I've decided to disable gliding and flying, except in designated areas. Spinning and floating will remain unaffected. There are simply too many secrets that would be ruined if I allowed people to fly around anywhere they please.
Now I just have to figure out how to work it into the story. Perhaps Bowser has cast a spell on the winds themselves, rendering his cape--and hot air balloon--flightless, thus trapping him on the island? Yeah, that works... |
