at points when playing, the game seems to weird out and make the background flash infront of the other things on screen, it is really annoying, Is there any reason why its doing this, I am using Project 64 version 1.6 I think its probly the rom but I just want to know if its the emulator for once. I think its most likley a bad dump. only other game I have had problems with is donkey kong 64 the textures messed up much like the bloopers on shrek where they strech away from the character.

In further detail of the Paper Mario problem, the background will flash infront of everything and between there is no background for when the background isn't flashing in the front.

My Paper Mario ROM is always experiencing problems. Sprites screw up to show purple layers and sometimes the game will freeze. The game is probably just a bad copy... all the Paper Mario ROMs I have heard of (which aren't many) are bad copies that experience problems.

Find GoodN64 and it will tell you if you have a good dump or a bad dump--it is the authority on those kinds of things.

As for graphics problems, I'd blame the graphics plugin more than the emu...

I might change the plug in, for some reason I also have the same problem on Mario RPG and Mario and Luigi super star saga, on the RPG game sprites blink, same for super star saga, I have had no problem with any other roms, other than I can't find a way to seperate my mario bros and duck hunt rom... (anyone have a patch for that?)

It seems that the mario RPG roms just have some problems with them...
I use ZSNES and have had no other problem with any other roms, even mario kart works pretty well.

if anyone knows of any patches that can fix that or tell me the problem that could be occuring in my emulator (I use Visual Boy Advance for GBA roms)

if you have problems with visualboy advance and N64, then I'm more inclined to say your video card has issues because pj64 and VBA are two seperate programs that do two seperate things to generate graphics. I'd try running GoodN64 and GoodGBA on your ROMs to see what is good and what isn't.

well as I said before Its only for those mario RPGS that they don't run correctly, but then again I already have beaten mario and luigi 2 times on my regular GBA I wanted to hack it but the sprites have some weird compression format, I honestly think it was the site I got them from because other roms give me no trouble at all, but let it be a mario rpg rom and the emulators weird out.

I think emus just have trouble with PM. It does push things pretty hard. Code being swapped in and out of memory, practically every graphic effect, etc.

This is one of those cases where (yes, I'm going to say it) going out and buying the actual game would be much better than emulating it. Generally games that really push things like this work much better in every possible way on the real system.

(seriously, an N64 here costs like 30 bucks. Fun fact: the NES is 60.)

How do I stop the flickering?
You could try a 3rd party video plugin.

I know this has all been covered in this thread already, but for crying out loud, it's RIGHT IN THE HELP FILE
