We all do things we don't want to do, if you don't you're just spoiled :p. But seriously, what do you do to live. Ie. my friend is banging an ugly chick so he has somewhere to sleep. I live with my mother, so I don't have to pay rent or anything (woot) but if anything needs done around the house, I'm the one to do it, whatever the task may be.

Anyways, this morning I get handed a utility knife and get told to rip up the carpet upstairs. I rip up the cat-piss soaked carpet, only to find another carpet underneath it. equally stinky. Guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow.

I'd throw this over to the OC, but there's a degree of relevance to my own life in it, so I'll forego my objection for the time being.

I live in a dorm. My tuition is paid for by the school I go to, but because boarding costs fluctuate, I usually end up applying for government loans.

My food is, for the most part, provided for me in the form of a meal plan that involves me scanning my university ID at a dining hall and partaking of food that demolishes my digestive tract and does just enough to keep me alive while at the same time *probably* sending me closer and closer to that dreaded final heart attack.

Whenever there are costs that outweigh what I've been "given", I augment my funds with the money I appropriate through my job at Toys R Us. Given that I typically only work about 15 hours per week during the school year, it's obvious that at my wages that just ain't much. I usually have to save most of my money for insurance for my car and payments on whatever my loans won't cover. Sometimes this leaves me with enough money to buy myself, say, a Pizza Pocket here and there. Other times I find myself scraping for coins to use the vending machines at work. It's a pretty good life, for the most part.

EDIT: "For the most part" is often dictated by what I have to pay for at the time. For example, I ended up selling my new DS Lite back to the store I bought it from in order to gain some of my birthday money back so I could afford an oil change and a parking pass for my car. Roughly 250 dollars, mind you. Fortunately, I've managed to get my DS back, so I guess life returns to normal at this point. I'm not above selling or returning things I've just bought in order to pay for bills, though.

This week, just to get by with the debt and stuff, I've walked 3km to a store to refund a door lock to get $34 which I used to buy some extra groceries and put some petrol in my car. Then I walked 3km back.

I've gathered together old clothes to try to sell later for extra spare change for groceries too. And I'm trying to find other bits and pieces I can sell just to make ends meet.

I've only spent $30 all up on my groceries to last me two weeks; having put everything else I can afford into trying to pay off this nasty debt that's popped up and is being demanding.

I've also taken on some odd jobs on the weekend for small change -- I got dinner and some beer out of the last one... not much, but the pizza sure was good and a little treat I really needed.

I'd walk home to save myself bus fare but it's 11km....

I have to carry almost everything around for my mom, no matter how heavy it is. Sure, it's not much compared to most other things in this topic, but I've really hurt myself a few times. =\

I should have left work an hour and a half ago. And I'm going to have to write about football for the Mothership for the next three weeks. An extra story each week, no extra Cash Money. They're also going to want me to go up once a week and take call-ins from coaches with results, even if I'm better served here, covering my own beat.

Oh, and I forgot, I did a 12km walk in the City-Bay Fun Run because it was hinted by my mother that it was a prerequisite for her helping me out financially with the current lot of shit-hitting-the-fan.

Considering I'm asking her to give up a significant portion of her pay to help me out and I'm inflicting financial hardship upon her, I guess that's fair. Between all of us, we have 14 days to come up with $2,500.

I worked at Wal-Mart for ~5 months a while ago and saved every penny before getting fed up with the job and quitting. Now I go to college, live at home, and survive off of those savings which are dwindling so rapidly.

Work at the brewery to get my cash. It's kinda risky during the weeknights because alot of weirdos and nasties come into the bar and beat eachother up. All these drunks are unpredictable and I'm supposed to hold people into submission if they get too crazy. The job pays very well because Tro and Taylor are good friends to me. There are alot of wino men around the area (aka downtown SA) who would pay so much money to get that rich beer we make plus the rich gays in the fashon business who like the really expensive stuff. It's amazing how much we have to pay to keep the brewery though.

I pay a crapload for child-care every month and alot in car insurance since my car is fairly new.

Oh, yes, that reminds me. After getting my degree, I couldn't find a job AT. ALL. I eventually had to rely on my then-girlfriend's sister to get a Decemberween jorb at Yankee Candle unloading inventory. Almost got fired from THAT because I was late, although that was because I had to give someone a ride (and the boss called to confirm that). At least I smelled better than when I worked at Boston Market in high school.

And the savings for that didn't last. Resorted to substitute teaching, lasted a whole four hours. Thankfully, the assigmnent was that long, but a visual demonstration of how the day went:

Couple of weeks later, I got paid. Deposited the check, went out to dinner with the girlfriend... and the entire paycheck went towards overdraft fees because the check didn't clear until the next day.

I work. I don't have to, but I want to, I feel a little more sound knowing I'm helping hold my weight so my aunt dosn't have to do any more than she already has to just to support herself. She says I don't have to do anything but it's not like I have much else to be doing...not a lot of friends, so, I work, it's fine. I'm a waitress, hoping to move up to cooking one day, but, doubt that will happen here xD

It doesn't really bother me that much, it's better than needing a full-time job and all, plus I get rides back from school (although I do have to walk/bus my way there). I'm not so much trying to bitch as hear what other people do.

I don't have too many necessary responsibilities in life yet, as I'm still in high school. I work hard in school so I can get into a good college, I work a part time job so that I can have a car to get me to school/other things, I help out around the house for my mom, etc. When I have to move out I'm sure things will get tougher, but until then... I'm good.
