I realize this is a quite a long shot, but does anyone know if a patch exists for this program that can play MOD, IT, XM, etc, music formats instead of just the standard MIDI and streamed MP3 and WAV formats? And if one doesn't exist, would anyone here have the knowledge and interest to create such a patch?

I don't believe there is one, but why would you want to do that as opposed to converting the sound files to mp3 or wav? Finding audio converters is easy. Finding or creating a patch for RPG Maker 2003 not so much.

Because in games sequenced music has a big advantage over streamed music. I can make the music repeat at a specific spot and I can have it loop seamlessly and endlessly. Unless somebody knows of a way to make mp3s loop seamlessly, and not necessarily loop to the beginning, then I think that MODs have the advantage. I could live with MIDI if it wasn't so difficult to make a MIDI sound good on a variety of different soundcards.

Can you not jump back to a specific point in the song when it reaches another point?

Not with an mp3. Well, I could do that by copying and pasting the waveform to extend the length of the song, but I can't make it repeat forever and the idea is to keep the size down. I believe specific game engines can do that kind of thing with mp3s, but not RPG Maker 2003. I don't know of any standard media player that can do that either. (If you know of one please let me know.)

In most media players you could do it by clicking at one point on the progress bar when it reaches another point. I don't know if that helps you but it is quite possible. Winamp can do it, and has a nice remote control interface you could use to do it automatically from another program.

How does this go in general emulation? Well, I'm not sure if it was 2k3 or XP, but one of the RPG makers has a series of patches (is that what they are? I don't use RPG maker) that can play anything from MOD to even SPC...I'd be of no use in finding these, but I simply recall hearing talk of such a thing. Again, I don't know which version it was for. Hope it helps...

I can't seem to find any evidence of such a patch for any version anywhere on the internet. What confuses me is why there does not seem to be greater support for such a patch. MOD formats are both superior in quality to MIDIs and superior in size and flexibility to MP3s. Would it be difficult to make such a patch; could an existing playback plugin be adapted? I'm not familiar with the audio playback code of RPG Maker.

Oh, and I didn't know where best to put this topic. Sorry. If you think it belongs in a different forum then I wouldn't object to a move.
