This thread shall be used for 'general purposes' in trying to congregate an idea for a tournament which can be used here.

In layman's terms: Saying "I think a tourney for Killer Instinct on the SNES or Magical Drop III or Twinkle Star Sprites via MAME" would suffice. With some backup, of course.

Oh yea, that was my idea, doi.

Anyways, I'd really like to see either of these three go into a tourney. They're ideas that not a lot of people would even think of and they're highly overrated games that could be a big hit for peeps.

Now you do one.

I'd say FreeCiv if I didn't totally hate the interface, or GunBound if I didn't delete it already. Can we suggest non-game tournaments? (programming compos, etc)

Bomberman and Chess would be fine for me. We could do something like coopetition in openTTD, but I have 11 years of playing experience. :/ I would love seeing something openTTD related, but seeing the intrest of that thread I posted I doubt it...

I wouldn't mind playing any of the Civilization games though. I pretty much have all of them apart from the first one. I would prefer Civ IV or Alpha centauri out of them though. Never touched FreeCiv.

There's communities that occasionally run MAME tournaments where everyone plays a game and tries to get the highest legitimate score, with the top scorers either getting points on a leaderboard or advancing to the next phase. I was involved in one once and it was great fun. Got knocked out in the second round (%&!#?$* Psycho Soldier) but it's still great.

I don't see why not. It'd probably be more productive of a forum if we had such threads anyways.

Seriously...make mine an NSF comp 4 reelz. Loves me some.

A TetriNET tourneyment would be nice. I mostly want to see some more skilled members whoop each other on it.

Bomberman 5 definetly.
I have been thinking of a Kirby Super Star one, where the two players go into Arena and pick whatever abilitys they want. Samurai or Megaton would be played once, and the winner would get to choose Kirby or Helper. Whoever plays Kirby cannot ditch his ability, cannot change ability, and cannot kill his opponent by changing him into an eatable ability. If Kirby goes in without an ability, he may not consume any other abilitys. Sorta the same for whoever gets partner...No self destructing, no consuming other abilitys.

Partner: Less HP, More abilitys (flying as Plasma Wisp for one)
Kirby: More HP, Less abilitys

I'm still considering it, and me and Xkeeper need to set some more rules. No tomatos or cook for one...

It would most likely be best 2 out of 3 to make it longer.
What do you guys think?

EDIT: Oh yea, I have also been considering a Kirby No Kirakira Kizzu (Kirby Star Stacker SNES) tourny. I loved this game younger on Gameboy, and I would play it all day. It's great Tetris-like variant, but has some neat twists. I advise people try the Gameboy one (Kirby Star Stacker) first though, as there is no translation for the SNES one.

Oh, so it WAS released. I remember Nintendo Power mentioned it was coming out for GB/SNES but that was near the end of the SNES run, so obviously they decided not to port it...

Its easy to pick up, but vs battles get hectic with two good players.
And yea, the SNES version was Jap only, but it still kicks ass.
I like it alot, its pretty damn fun. To noobs it may rely on luck, but good players can make combos that abolish the competition.

Street fighter would be cool or any fighting game would be nice. Mortal Kombat 3 would be awesome.

Yea, I didn't think it was either. I knew it was on SGB but not on SNES. Star Stacker played 2P makes for some pretty fast-paced games, though, because it's incredibly easy to pick up. Yoshi is even easier.

If you're going to do a game like that, though, do Magical Drop III. pwnz both.

Though it would likely take quite a while, I was thinking of an Advance Wars tourney myself. Problem is, I don't know any good clients for GBA netplay, though Advance Wars by Web has a nice and easily usable interface.

SILLY FOOL!
Noone listens to anything I say D:
I have posted it on the board and said it in IRC so many times...
There is a VBA Link version here http://vbalink.wz.cz/ and here http://www.vbalink.info/.
I believe the first one is the better of the two, I forget. They may be the same it's been awhile.

Anywho, you just download Hamachi, the virtual LAN program, and poof! VIRTUAL FREAKING LAN USEABLE WITH VBALINK!

Oh shit. A DOOM clone.

I remember a few of us in IRC got together and did that a year or so ago with DOOM Legacy. That was the shit for a while.

We did that with Scorch 2000 too but that didn't kick ass enough.
