Other UK people will know what a total legend this guy is:

Severe spinal/head injuries. Not good. Hope he pulls through, he's a great presenter. One of the best.

That's awful, he's the freshest face on TV this decade.

I really hope he pulls through. He's been taken to the neurological unit with head injuries, but there are reports that he was able to talk to the emergency services before he left the scene of the accident. Hopefully this is a good sign.

I know there are others that watch Top Gear here, outside of the UK. Blades is one, I've talked regularly about Top Gear with him, and we both love the show.

Top Gear is without a doubt the greatest show on TV for the past decade.

And yeah, my girlfriend once served Jeremy, James and Rich at the pub she works as a waitress at. Apparently Richard is the nicest of the 3, and gave her a good tip. Poor bloke.

I've watched it since the early ninties, easily the most entertaining factual show on television. In it's newer incarnation, it's gone from strength to strength, with neither the presenters nor the BBC bowing to pressure to tone down the entertainment factor. This is a shining example of how the BBC should be commissioning programs. Absolute top-class stuff.

He's now in a stable condition according to the latest BBC report from the hospital.

Looks like things may turn out well afterall. When he gets back onto Top Gear, they'll probably all laugh and joke about it on the show, and then do more crazy test drives- it's just something you expect from them.

Aww... I watch Top Gear sometimes here -- I have several GB of it on my Fileserver at home.

I hope he's okay; and I hope that he recovers from the head and spinal injuries with no long term ill effects.

Every time I hear about something like this, I wonder what it looked like. Is it wrong to want to see a video of it happening? (This and the Steve Irwin one?)

Of course not. I mean.... ...I dunno, it's not really interesting to see people get killed/seriously hurt. Only slapstick violence is funny. Or imaginary violence.

It's not the "funny" that I'm after, it's just the curiosity. Usually, the gruesome parts make me avoid watching that particular video again.

I'm glad there's no videos of people dying of old age.

Anyways, back on topic: I'm a big fan of rally racing. Richard is one rugged dude. Speedy racer, speedy recovery. (I hope.)

My dad really likes his show, I watch it now and then, it's quite entertaining (it's run in syndication here by the Norwegian National Broadcasting). They've been following the accident in the Norwegian media, and as far as I can understand from what they're saying, he's expected to survive and be alright again?

Apparently so - he's been moved into a seperate ward now, and his situation is no longer critical.

Jeremy Clarkson recently said that he had visted Hammond in hospital and criticised his driving skills - the unconcious Hammond then smiled.

So hopefully, he'll be fine...no brain damage hopefully.

I'm gonna be honest and say that I really don't know the guy well at all as a part of Top Gear, but I've seen him on Brainiac: Science Abuse. I saw a few episodes of it on a certain online Wimap TV station.

If his situation isn't critical, than that's quite obviously a good thing. All I can do is hope there are no complications.

I can only remember him being on 3 TV shows: Top Gear, Brainiac: Science Abuse, and the "Should I Worry About...?" series. Anyway, I think, as most other people do, that after crashing at a speed of (nearly) 300 mph, or exactly 482.8032 km/h, he's lucky to still be here to tell the tale. I think he's recovering reasonably quickly now.

According to Clarkson, he's walking and talking again, barely.

It's a remarkable recovery for just a few days after such an accident...

IN the wee small hours of Thursday night, just 30 hours after what is almost certainly the world’s fastest ever car crash, Richard Hammond suddenly sat up in bed, opened his eyes and asked what had happened.

“You’ve been in a car accident,” I said. “Was I driving like a tw*t?” he asked, before getting out of bed and walking, shakily, to the lavatory.

His wife, Mindy, couldn’t believe her eyes. None of us could. It really did seem that he’d had a look through death’s door and decided he didn’t like what he saw on the other side.

Later, he looked across at James May and said: “Hello C**k face.”

Despite all the odds, it seemed we’d got our Hamster back . . .

Good to know that he's slowly getting back to his normal self.

So I'm guessing he found the switch and changed it from "Broke" to "Fixed"

(still, that's pretty incredible)

Sorry to all you Top Gear fans (Of which I am among you), but according to one of the newspapers (Dunno which one) it has been said that Top Gear may be cancelled...

It's also possible that if the safety inspectors find something wrong with the planning of the event that caused the tragedy the BBC will be prosecuted.
