As it's said in the title, I need to disable the select button. I don't want to disable it in general, only in a few levels. Can anyone help? (edited by ghettoyouth on 09-15-06 11:12 AM) |

yes. use the controller override to do that. Oh yeah, you can download it from
override.rar (edited by Sukasa + on 09-15-06 11:31 AM) |

yes I could use that, but I already have a custom generator* for the levels in that I want to disable select. So I want to add some more intructions to that generator
(*disables the item box for the cape, if anyone wants to know) (edited by ghettoyouth on 09-15-06 12:10 PM) (edited by ghettoyouth on 09-15-06 12:11 PM) |

At x4776 or thereabouts there's some debug code that never, ever gets run. I hack that part out on lots of my random hacks. If you want to make it so capes don't drop on certain levels, you could check level and cape and jump the item box code.
It's pretty easy to read the code around there; it checks to see if up in addition to select is pressed and if so rotates your powerup. This information is all from memory, so I might have gotten some of it wrong. |

I would suggest finding all opcodes that deal with the selct controller button data and delete them.
I don't think there exists a "delete Select button use" RAM Address. |

What I meant was you could patch the override to your ROM, and then control it with your sprite.
Have a look at it's readme (or find my thread on the override with an HTML version of it) and see how your sprite cancontrol the override. |

If you're trying to use an object to disable the select button at certain times, I think it may be as easy as simply continuously writing the "off" state to the address/register/whatever that holds the state of the select button. I'm able to do that on the Genesis, anyway... not sure if it works -entirely- the same in this case. Worth a try, anyway. | |||

Most button presses are handled before custom block code.
I knwo, I tried it that way. Plus, you only have to write the registers once! |
