If you gotten into a car accident, and it came to bite you right in the ass months later, then you found out from your insurance company they want their money... and you only have a month to pay them in full ammount with no other payment options, should you give up on life?

The reason I'm asking is that I was involved in a car accident four months ago, and now, in two weeks I may either go to jail for an un-determined number of years, or end up on the streets with my family because they took the house and everything I've owned.

Some asshole mother fucker crashed into me when I was driving off after stopping, cops came an hour later, and they said it was my fault, because the man who crashed into me worked with the Miller Lite company. The SUV was somewhat totalted, yet still drivable, from then on my life shorty turned to hell...

Now, two weeks ago. I recieved a notice from the insurance company. If they don't get $5,086.65 by the end of this month, they will take legal actions which is unknown years of jail time for me, or they get to sell the house and we lose everything we owned, and become homeless...

Just take a loan out, it's better than giving up on life completely. Or find somebody rich you know. If you are really determined, just beg for money from some really rich person you don't know.

Get a loan. Borrow against the house?
Contact debt consolidation companies.
Sell things
Contact Legal Aid or the equivalent

The same kinds of things that I had to do when I got done for the $27,000.00 (fraudulent debt from my ex)

There's no banks around the city that would give me a loan on cash, we can't get legal aid anymore. Believe me guys I've tried EVERYTHING there is possible...

I can't sue cause the guy has his fancy ass lawyers on his side and half the company he works with, and that asshole boss of his who cursed me out and threatened me with a sledgehammer on that day of the accident.

I was right when I told myself that the police once they show up will favor the one who works with a company as opposed to those who had no job and live a plain simple life...

Get loans fast, like everyone else said. Screw the court crap if you're going to lose that fight. It may be a tight situation but you can still take action, grab the bull by the horns. You cannot ask for money from relatives? Surely, they would care about you enough to keep you from going to hell because some fraudulent jackass wants 5k.

Really, reading that just pissed me off.

No banks would not accept us because my mother after she got off work went to get a loan from our usual bank, and they simply turned her down, saying that they cannot afford to hand us any loans. Most of my relatives no longer speak to us after my father left the family three or four years ago. Even Becky's parent's don't have the means of helping me out with all this shit.

We can't get no financial aid, legal aid, or any bullshit. The only thing left for me is a long winding road into an enternal darkness that will slowly consume me for the rest of my life, or if someone felt too sorry to even help me or my family, though I'm hoping somethign WOULD happen, somethign good for once. I'm just as angry as any of you if anyone read this, yet it proves just how much life totally sucks...

I came up with an idea cause of something I'm chasing up with my own money issues -- is there some kind of ombudsman or other regulatory body you can bring this up with, to have them intervene and come up with some kind of payment option that isn't so... nasty??

Additionally, are there any "crisis" loan/debt agencies there you can talk to? They can usually assist with things like this, not necessarily with loans but through other means.

I'm confused, you had insurance right? If you were at fault, your insurance company should be paying them, that's the entire point of insurance. I mean, if you were driving without insurance... for lack of better words, you're a fucking moron.

And you really should've appealed to the cops and made sure to get pictures. Some jackass tried doing this to me, he'd be paying me.

Yeah... pretty much what he said. And even if you had to pay a certain amount (say, you had to pay the first 1000, they pay the rest), that would still be better than 5K. I don't know what your policy is, but insurance is just for this reason.

And if you don't have insurance, then wtf.

Guys -- it sounds like it's the Insurance company that's asking for the money -- at least, that's my initial interpretation of the first post.

Which is why I've suggested an ombudsman or other regulatory body / something to mediate between them and the Insurance company, because this is just unfair.

Insurance shouldn't be asking for 5K. Maybe the other person's insurance... but that's between the insurance companies, it shouldn't be coming out of his pocket.

@ Tarale: Totaly correct. I did have insurance when the accident happen. And they want their money, since it's already too late.

But, my mother, who is the sole owner of the car in question (Red Ford Sedan), has been busy trying to get a public defender, and she was going to sue the company.

So, the only thing to do is wait to get arrested in public (which would suck cause it hapened to me before, but only because the cops thought I was the person who robbed a Kwik-shop in St. Louis, which I didn't cause 1) I can't drive a car without a lisence... anymore, 2) Why the fuck would I drive all the way down there when I can walk four blocks west and go to the Kwik-shop there, and 3) I was in a class that day workign on last-minute assignments) or repo-men barge into the house and take everything for payment.

Of course, one person off another message board said to just "kill" myself then live under a new name. I never spoke to him again.

See, in Australia, we have the Insurance Ombudsman Service which can help with complaint resolution in cases such as this.

I've tried to research to find a United States equivalent; but I keep getting Australian search results There has to be some kind of regulatory / mediatory / conflict resolution body.

There's got to be more to this. It doesn't make sense.

Even if you were at fault, your insurance should be the one paying. And unless you live in a very backwards state that didn't abolish debtors prison decades ago, you shouldn't go to jail for an unpaid private debt.
