Does anyone know of a spectrum of places to see beta sprites, and unused sprites? I'm a big fan of that kinds of stuff. I already know of "Secrets of Sonic Team" and "TMK's Lost Bytes" But I want to see more.

PS: I'm kinda iffy if this thread is going to survive or not.

Super Metroid has the mini crocomire, plus the reflector (a beam mirror) and and exploding sprite that gets bigger every time you shoot it, then it shoots you! Surprisingly they are fully functional as well.

Legend of Zelda LTTP has the cannon soldier, which is also fully functional, but just sucks. You can add one through Hyrule Magic.

Metroid Zero Mission has a beta Crocomire. I don't think there was code put in for him, but don't quote me on that. I think some hackers either discovered code for him, or made code for him.

This stuff always interested me, too.

This is the best site I've come across.

Of course, there is the famous screen shot on the back of the SMB3 box of a level that doesn't exist... and there's a hidden saturn-like planet in Gemini Man's stage in Mega Man 3...

Anyone know of any others?

Mini Ridley in Metroid, Arwing in Zelda OoT, leftovers of an unused level in Mega Man, leftovers of Mega Man 1 levels in Mega Man 2, an unused balloon item in Milon's Secret Castle that warps you to the outdoors, an unused music track in Ufouria... I'm sure there's a multitude of other ones I know of but am not remembering right now. *shrugs*

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but i must add that the
music track 4 in ufouria's nsf came in the japanese version
of Ufouria called ''Hebereke'' also! but Hebereke, Along with
the Unused Song, There is Another Unused Graphic, Which
is the 5th (or 6th, Whitchever) Boss in a UFO,

NOTE: This only exists in the HEBEREKE rom, The japanese
version of UFOURIA,

Look in Google for ''Hebereke (j).nes'' Or Hebereke (j).zip,
unzip it, and go to YY-CHR, Then Put the ROM in YY-CHR
and put it in ''Vertical'' mode and:

Final Fantasy IV has an unused magic-casting animation for Kain, and an extra magic menu presuably for him. Early Japanese screenshots show him with a White Magic command.

There are also many unused "who can equip" combinations, many of which include two unusable character (Golbez and Anna), its been speculated Golbez may have, at one point, become a playable character for the last dungeon.

...what?

Anyway! I also found this,, which is probably only especially interesting to me since Mega Man 3 is my favorite game... you know... ever. But anyway, just check out the original graphics for Top Man's stage! So much better than the weird-assed football stadium lighting scheme it ended up with.

And the full Dr. Wily Castle theme is really bizarre, after having heard only the first two seconds my whole life. Good schtuff, good schtuff...

I think it's more likely that since those are the only 2 non-playable characters that appear in battle as normal characters, they had to set up all the data for them, despite not ever being practically used. Just to prevent a freaky glitch caused by using invalid data, or whatever.

I too never heard of the SMB2 prototype.

I was the one who discovered the unfishished Crocomire in Metroid Zero Mission. There must exist some code, as beams do seem to hurt him, but he never dies, nor does he hurt you. He doesn't move either.
