Rather than hijack Xkeeper's thread (which I might have already done a bit) to talk about Screensavers, I thought I'd start a new thread about them.

What do you use as a screensaver?

I've found it harder and harder recently to find a decent screensaver. You can find a whole heap that are full of spyware and adware, or want you to register, or pay money or whatever, but it's hard now to find a decent little screensaver.

So, I've started trying to collect some of the older, retro ones. I've already managed to acquire a current working copy of Flying Toasters for example (but nothing else that was for After Dark). I've also still got a working copy of "Johnny Castaway" by Sierra.

My favourite screensaver ever is the Johnny Castaway one, just because even after watching it for years, there are some things that I havent' seen on it.... maybe one day I'll be lucky and see them...

Generally though, I seem to have the generic windows XP screensaver, or "Flurry" in OS X.

What do you use?

Right now its defaulted to the Windows XP default (the logo on a black screen that reappears sporadically)...I never put a whole lot of thought in to it, actualy .-.

I just have the 3D text that bounces around.

It shows the time. (naturally.)

I half wonder if the only reason I put thought into it is because I grew up with screensavers...

I grew up with After Dark for DOS, and then for Windows. We used to almost "collect" the things.

And now that I work in an office and appreciate the privacy afforded by screensavers, I miss being able to find a decent one easily.

Mine defaults to the Windows logo but I usually just turn my screen off if I'm away.

I'm using the Flying Through Space screensaver right now. It's exactly what it sounds like, you just see a bunch of stars flying past you.

I only changed that because the old screensaver that I was using which was Scrolling Marquee was starting to get pretty old. I used it for counting down the days of school last year and after school was finished, I put school was finished in the text. Around August, I changed the screensaver because school was about to start.

Starfield Simulation looks quite good in a dark room, actually. It's a fairly dull and simple screensaver, as those things go, but I remember as a kid thinking it looked quite striking in the dark.

Reminds me, there were a lot of interesting screensavers on Linux that I enjoyed too. I particularly get a laugh out of the BSoD one Or more to the point -- I get a laugh out of people's reactions to that screensaver.

I don't have a screen saver; the monitor just turns off after 30 minutes idling (15 minutes when off of the adapter).

My Pictures Screensaver, currently taking pictures from my DDR Ultramix 2 simfile folder.

Its decent... although this one screensaver I used to play with in stores was this one called "Marbles" I think. You pressed a button and you could place down some things, press it again, and the marbles would drop from the top, hitting the objects. Ah, so simple, yet so fun...

I'd like that screensaver from Team17, though, with the Worms Armageddon worms killing each other as though it were the game...

I just use the standard WindowsXP screensaver for all my machines. However, usually the monitor turns off within a 1 minute after that, so perhaps my screensaver is more likely to be a blank screen.

I use Flurry for OS X too. I'm boring.
What I'd like to have are the screensavers from the times of classic mac, such as city scape, flying toasters, you know.

I use Beziers or just the Blank Screen screensaver. I'm not interested in trying to download a different one, really.

That would be After Dark, which won't work anyway since they're so unsecure and easily terminatable

I've been using HyperHacker's PixelBounce screensaver for over a year now. It's just mesmerizing.

I don't have a screensaver. If I wanted one, I'd write it myself, but I don't know what to make it.

I had a screensaver with kitties chasing a butterfly. (Part of After Dark I think)

You could make your own version with kitty-girls chasing a butterfly

I probably would have anthromoprhic cats of all genders flying over my screen if I could. Ehg I'm using that starfield simulation one. It's been there since Win 3.1 and I don't see why to use any other one.

I remember that Fedora core included alot of neat screensavers when I had it, but hadn't seen anything else. I could make my own someday to practice openGL. Dosen'tt have to be too intensive.

I liked to watch the Johhny Castaway screensaver for hours as kid though... haha.
