| Alright, time for a little role play. You are a Swiss citizen and you have just been conscripted by the military for active duty, however, you are a conscientious objector. You have been called to a hearing conducted by fellow citizens as well as a small panel of psychiatrists and are asked a series of questions. Their intention is to see if you're truly opposed to war and should therefore be exempt from service, or whether you're a liar or just lazy. See, if you refuse to go into service simply because you are lazy or frightened, you go to jail, as they put it, "choose to go to jail." Here is a selection of questions that are actually asked in this real-life situation. Let's have some fun; answer them for us, will you? If you aren't actually a conscientious objector, pretend you're at this hearing anyway, but respond to the questions honestly. <b>How and when did you decide against the military service?</b> <b>Why can't you arrange military service with your conscience?</b> <b>What prohibits you to serve in the military?</b> <b>Do you fear having to fight, or to use force?</b> <b>Do you want to abolish the army?</b> <b>What do you think about the phrase "We have the army to defend us, not to kill others"?</b> <b>What would you do if you're attacked?</b> <b>What do you feel when you see that others are attacked?</b> <b>What is violence, exactly?</b> <b>Would you rather experience losses than having to use force?</b> <b>Would you describe yourself as a pacifist?</b> <b>What basic values, beside objecting to violence, do you have?</b> <b>What entity gives you the certainty that your thinking and your feelings are right?</b> <b>Why didn't you chose to go into prison if your conscience is that strong?</b> (Remember I said you can "choose to go to prison" if you don't want to be conscripted, that's what this question refers to. Delete these parenthesis and the text within them after you copy/paste.) <b>Why didn't you use medical reasons to avoid military service?</b> <b>What do you actually do to further peace, or is your attitude the only peaceful thing about you?</b> <b>Who is in charge of defending your children in case of an armed conflict?</b> (If you don't have children, please answer supposing you did, unless you never plan to have children. Again, delete these parenthesis and the text in them after copy/pasting.) <b>Do you live your ethical principles inside your family?</b> (What they mean is, "Does your family share your ethical principles with you?" The next three questions are general questions about your personality, so the hearing leaders can get a feel for what kind of person you are. Delete the parenthesis again.) <b>What books do you read?</b> <b>What do you demand from yourself?</b> <b>Are you merely a leader, a follower or a loner?</b> Pencils down, boys and girls. Now hand in your papers from front to back and place them in a pile on my desk. Jimmy, stop chewing that gum in my classroom. |
