I get that to. It's those linked articles. I'll be reading along, and a word will link to another slightly related article, and I think, "huh, I wonder that's all about". And I just keep doing that until I'm on something completely unrelated. Like I be reading about some 19th century poet, and the next thing I know I reading about the Cassini space probe. Sometimes I'll go to look something up, and I happen to see something under "Did you know...", and it will be another 4 hour before I actually look up what I came there for.

It's especially bad when it comes to articles about video games. There are so many ways to link every whichway, I end up with a good 10 tabs open. Then I start to forget about stuff

I was reading the section titled "Practical beliefs". It was one of the many articles I had read around that area (e.g. ghosts/poltergeists/etc), and I was wondering how the hell you could have "practical beliefs"

Heh, I've been there. Damn those interesting links.

If you think Wikipedia is bad, though, do NOT go to everything2.com.

Go video-game hunting on Wikipedia. You'll be surprised how many neat trivia tidbits you'll find - or factual errors in some cases.

I looked up Jupiter one night... and then I had 10 tabs open and spent all night reading about physics that I'll never have sufficient math skills to understand. It sucks you in, man...

well, that's why i said it's a good way to pass time, but sometimes too much time. i could be browsing for what feels like maybe 30 minutes when really it's been about 3 hours... it sucks.

I like Wikipedia, but you always have to be so mindful that you may in fact be reading bullshit.

Which kinda spoils some things

As long as you only see it as a general "idea" of some things, it's fine. If you want to find out real information it's best to research elsewhere.

And if your school teacher (like one or two people on this board) accepts Wikipedia as a reliable source, abuse the hell out of it.

Well, it CAN be reliable for SOME things.

I've noticed that there's some fairly reliable -- if generic - information on a lot of computer related topics. And on a lot of TV and Movie related topics.

Wouldn't take some of the stuff on psychiatry that seriously though

Like me. I would copy something from Wikipedia, and then paste it in a report I have to do, and then put the article in my own words. They would probably try to check it and see if you copied it, but it would be in your words.

So, who wants to try it? I don't want my Wikipedia account banned, so I haven't tried.
