I'm not sure he would have gotten this particular joke, but as I stated before, I think he'd be making jokes about it himself if he could... (as stated -- larrikin...jokes about everything -- used to joke every other time he was hurt too)

Watching his show it always seemed like he was casually moving out of the way of a deadly posionious snake as it lunges at him, on just barely avoiding being hit by the "powerful tail of this huge croc, that could kill a man with a single blow". I remember wondering once if some day I'd turn on the TV and hear he was done in by some wild animal he was messing with. But at the same time I kinda figured he was never in any real danger. The odd thing was that he was appartently just swimming over this sting ray. Not holding it up and saying "Ah, she's a beaut'", like he would do with deadly rattlesnakes.

It is sad though, not just because the public lost an entertaining personality, but more because his wife lost a husband, and his children will grow up with out a dad.

It was a freak accident. Not only were the odds against the stingray stinging him, but they were EXTREMELY against the stingray puncturing his heart. In most situations we might have seen a small news story saying that Steve got jumped by a stingray and is in stable condition at a hospital. :\
