| When I first decided to make this thread, I was thinking of just asking about positive consequences of your job, but negative consequences are interesting too, I think.
When you started your current job, aside from job perks, how did your job change you, the way you think, or what you know about the world? Did it give you a new perspective? Some new skills? Anything really cool? Would you consider some of these things bad changes? What about previous jobs you took. |

| I currently work as a winter swim team coach. Really all that its doing to change me is making me richer and learning how to deal with spoiled kids. Its really simple anyway so I don't get much out of it. All I do is just tell the kids what to swim and if they're drowning I jump in and save them. Not much but its worth making siome money during the school year. | |||

| The biggest consequence of my last job is that I hardly ever cook (as in really cook) at home anymore. I did it on demand for double shifts most days for two years and it kinda burned me out. I'm kiiiiinda starting to get over the trauma though. I do love cooking... | |||

| When I was working at a restaurant, I had long hours on my feet and the quality of air wasn't all that great with the heat from the grill and poor ventilation. It ended up causing some minor skin problems. I also found a new distain for people who go to lunch on Sundays. Good stuff? Um... I now know to steer clear of restaurant work. | |||

| I do computer troubleshooting all day, every day at work. (I work on a Help Desk)
As a consequence, I now have little tolerance for such things outside of work. I'll do it if you pay me though  |

| I so know that story, Taryn... I hate and despise computers because I always have to fix EVERYONE'S. I might get dinner out of it. I always say I'm gonna start charging $50 an hour even for friends and family, but I never have. I do at least require that I get parts out of the deal now, but still... bleh | |||

So I charge. I don't care if they're family; I don't charge them much anyway -- just enough to keep them from abusing the situation. 
Although my step-grandfather has worked out that it's hard for me to insist on charging for phone support.... so he tries to get me to help over the phone where possible. I like it when I have to actually visit... I get money that way. |

The other thing I've noticed is that my 'hobbies' with regards to computer stuff have shifted. I'm now only interested in fields of computing which I don't have to support at all at work. | I actually find myself spending very little time in front of the computer these days, except when I'm spamming Acmlm's.
I never mess with the system like I used to. I don't upgrade. I don't game. I don't even check my email or surf the net. I just don't care for any of it anymore. That's why I dissappeared for most August. I didn't feel like sitting at the computer. |

| Oh, I got no problem with sitting at a computer outside of work.
I just prefer it to be not running Microsoft Windows. Or if it does; not to be running any applications that we use at work (so openCanvas is good, and Azureus, VLC and AverTV are also good...) |

| I might use the computers at home more if the network really worked correctly.
But It's Windows XP, where you can set up a network using the same steps 10 times and have it randomly work or not work regardless of what you actually do. I really need to get a Mac or learn some flavor of Linux... |

| I started my job almost three years ago (come this October). Oh, I swear, this job has put me off from having kids for a few more years. Its made me wonder how can a parent buy "Texas Chainsaw Masacure" for their 5 and 4 year old andthen you have a nother parent who thinks pokemon is too violent for their 5 year old. It just amazes me about the type of people (parents) that are out there and what they buy for their children. But that is a rant for another day. | |||

Yep, I always have to fix my mom's computer too, usually because Windows has suddenly forgotten how to connect to a wireless network or that printers exist.  I do get paid for the tougher jobs, but it's not a fixed amount. |

| I have to show my mom how to do simple computer tasks all the time. Sometimes it amazes me how someone can have used computers for works and whatnot for so many years and still not really have any idea how they work.
My dad is horrible. I'm surprised he can even check his email. He calls directories "files" no matter how many times I get pissed at him for it. Ergh. I'm not a good teacher because I get angry when people don't know something that I think should be intuitively obvious. |
