RG’s ROM Hacking (Graphics) Tutorial V. 1.0

1. How to edit Birch in the Intro (R/S/E)
Editing birch is easy, well, very easy, so follow me:

1. Get EliteMap (well if you don’t have this you are not a hacker)
2. Open TLP.exe (it comes with elite map)
3. Load your ROM in it
4. Well go to Edit->Goto and choose the hex radio
5. Type 39DA00 as the offset and click on Go!
6. Then go to Pallet->Load and choose birch.tpl file which I have given with this tutorial. You would see that it looks a bit like birch but yet not exactly
7. Now resize the window in which the ROM has been loaded, horizontally to half
8. But yet it is messed up so we press the key we use to put minus signs and underscores 12 times and viola, Birch has emerged from trash
9. Edit it but remember that the first colour of the pallet is always transparent.
10. Only use the colours supplied don’t get too expecting that you change the pallet in TLP if you want to change the colours do the pallet editing stuff in the ROM.

See, how you can make Birch look like a baboon wearing a lab coat so easily?

2. How to edit the Groudon in the Title Screen (Ruby)
Well Groudon gets a bit difficult but not that much

1. Get EliteMap (well at least now you shuld have it ^ )
2. Open PokePic
3. Load your Ruby ROM
4. In Advanced mode type in 3748432 as the offset with 16 rows
5. Dump raw it
6. Open TLP.exe
7. Load the raw file and load the pallet groudon.tpl
8. You should see some bubbles on the top left corner those are the bubbles that float in the title screen
9. The groudon is split into half as you can see
10. Edit it but keep in mind that the background colour is not even at all places you must put the right colours at the right place, the colours actually are same in one row so you get the idea
11. While putting the colours the black colour is the colour that should fill your picture and blue is the colour which should get highlight
12. When saved open up PokePic go to the offset in advanced mode but this time insert raw instead choose the edited file and save it up

Groudon was not even that difficult for you was it?

3. Going on with other pictures
You would use the 2nd tutorial’s method for all the pictures below

1. I. Groudon in Ruby – Offset: 3748432, rows: 16 – Pallet: groudon.tpl
2. II. Credit Intro (R/S/E) – Offset: 15320984, rows: 2 – Pallet: intro.tpl
3. III. GameFreak presents (R/S/E) – Offset: 4219776, rows: 8 – Pallet: gamefreak.tpl
