Recently I was turned down. I suppose I saw it coming. Anyway, I'm curious if you people have ever been turned down, and how the other person turned you down.

I mean, in asking people to go out with you.

(Being turned down sucks)

Eh, epic story there.

Anyways, I'll move this to the Officer's Club.

A favorite saying of mine:

"Babe Ruth struck out 1330 times in his career. But he stepped up to the plate and took his cuts, which is why he also hit 714 home runs.

The point? You CANNOT succeed without multiple failures first."

That's almost a 2:1 ratio of failure to success, by the way, and Ruth is still considered one of the / THE greatest hitter of all time even with that ratio.

I don't know if you would consider this being turned down or not, but it's as close as I have ever been to being turned down.
I asked her if she would go out with me, and she kept prolonging the answer.
instinctively I told her that she can say no to me, without my feelings being hurt.
But she kept telling me that the answer wasn't no.
This went on for about a week, before i finally just told her that I will take it as a no.

I have numerous times (I believe I've stressed this to death already), the first time was just a simple "no" (after much running away from me as I tried to ask her THE question), the second time, was a sincere "no, sorry" response. That's it... but I still felt the sad displeasure on missing out on both of them for their responses, even though they both could've taken it to a whole other level.

Yeah, I've been turned down before. I was a bit upset about it when it happened in High School, but generally not too bad.

It's worse when you're more emotionally invested in something. If it's only a case of an "I'd like to get to know you better" situation, it's a little bit of a bruise to the ego, but not much more. If it's somebody you have developed serious feelings for and you get turned down, it's not fun.

You just gotta get used to it, man. It's going to happen countless times in your life, so why let it bother you?

Move on and find somebody better

Yep. Last Friday, as a matter of fact, I asked a girl out. She said to me, "Sorry, but I don't want a boyfriend right now." and a few hours later (this was at school, by the way) I heard someone else ask her out, and she agreed.

Made me pretty mad.

She just didn't want to hurt your feelings, that's all.

I know, "She hurt my feelings anyways," but for some reason girls think that this isn't as bad as being outright denied.

What's with the sexism? Boys can sometimes dodge questions the same way. I don't think it's a gender thing, it's a matter of the personality of the person thing....

I never meant to say that boys were angels, either _¬

I think there are some pretty clear gender traits about dating, though. There'll be exceptions to the rules, but I think the majority follow a pattern of some sort.

Actually, she didn't hurt my feelings, I realized what a bitch she was after I heard her say that. And I'd personally rather her say it to my face then to try to hide it with a bullshit story.

That's exactly what I'm trying to say. Guys tend to want to hear it straight up, but girls are more inclined to be nice and "let him down gently."

Been turned down everytime. I'm batting 0.000 in 21 years. Beat that Babe Ruth! It used to bother me, but I think I got used to it at some point. Meh.
