It seems my thread is dieing so i figured I'd post to keep it alive. I'm still doing the palette stuff trying to get the right colors and I've now started to make some grunt and elite sprites (I suppose I should make jackals too...) Nespaled pisses me off alot though, but its a hell of alot easier than going through with a hex editor so I have no room to complain.

Hows this comming along?
I was thinking that the Warthog jumping isn't the part that doesnt make since, it is when the warthog ducks that is the strange part. I thought that during normal stance, the bullets shoot out of the turret, and while ducking, the bullets can shoot out of the passengers gun. But the warthog looks the same either way. Would that work? But while ducking the warthog stops, so maybe it makes since that the bullets come out of the drivers gun. This is justified because the driver would have to stop in order to take aim and shoot his gun. (edited by ImInvisible on 09-18-06 08:24 PM) |

When it ducks, it lowers itself using hydraulics or some such. Much like crappy ricer cars are known to do. | |||

Sorry for not posting for a while. I just became a sophmore and a got a crap load of work to do. I will continue the hack but at a much slower "pace" (did I spell it right or is it the name of the salsa?). I like the hydrolics Idea, I think I will just make really big wheels and when it comes time to jump the wheels will be revealed as the wart hog moves upward. It may be hard to understand but you'll see when I finish with it.

That's imaginative using hydrolics, but I believe your going to run into problems. The turret is the tallest thing on the warthog as you can see by the pics. In order to still use the turret while ducking, the warthog would have to be squashed down to fit within 1 row of tiles for the bullet to match up. That's all I was thinking when suggesed having the driver shoot while holding the down button. |

Hm, yeah, looks like the driver shooting would be the best idea in that case. Though it wouldn't make a lot of sense that he has a weapon (obviously fairly small) that can shoot the same bullets as that big vehicle-mounted turret.
I bet it wouldn't be too hard to hack the bullets' offset so it still looks like it's coming out of the turret. |

Well then if the gunpower is a concern then there is a solution to everything, (keeping in mind that Tanks is only doing a graphics hack.)
The solution to the ducking, the jumping and everything is to not use a warthog at all, but to make the vehicle a ghost. While standing the ghost floats in midscreen moving around firing out the nose. While ducking the ghost lands on the ground and still fires out of the nose. And while jumping the ghost throws on boosters launching it in the air. but who wants a stinking ghost when you could have a warthog. |

(Drum roll...) I have done the ultimate bump ever... probably not.... but this is just to get a few more ideas before I go ahaed and finish up my hack. I have all of the game play sprites for Master Cheif edited. I have fixed the tile screen bug. I need to redo the text editing but that should not take to long since I wrote out the script before hand. (the last rom got F'd up for some odd reason... blame nesticle)
I have mad a hard decision. I cannot turn the big mode sprites into a ghost or warthog. Instead I think I will do my best to turn them into the Cheif himself. Now I need some help coming up with what I should turn into what... I have narrowed down a few things. That harmless rock thing-a floating platform? the scorpion-a grunt the guerillas- elite's and jackals for the cave/other skull level places, I think I will change most of those things into different types of flood. I just need to figure out waht to change the Predator into. There is a predator that appears out of Big mode. He shoots and does flips. I need to figure what to change him into. I also need ideas on what to change the predator in big mode into. Please post your ideas. This hack is about 85% complete I just need to clear these up and we should have a realease. Now I might post some screens in the screen shot thread. Check there to see how it's going. Ps. I got permission to bump... so don't flame. (edited by Tanks on 01-30-07 05:59 PM) |

I havent really read the entire thread so I dont know if you covered this, have you changed the ingame music? Like into halo music? Because that would be really cool and if you are making an editor along the way I would be more than happy to help contribute to that. But I think the easiest program for you would be Visual basic, but maybe you could try Java so that I can help since I work on a mac and can't help if you use VB. Well good luck finishing the hack! |
