I was inspired by the popular ytmnd to make this halo nes hack of Predator. here are some screens so far.

Title Screen

Pre-level Master Cheif

Sorry no gameplay shots yet... i'll have them up soon.

Im also having trouble with the title movie. I put the same MC pic i had on the prelevel spot on the title movie Arnold. I begin to play the movie and when it gets to the Arnold part, it freezes. im not sure if its the game or Tile molester. I you have a good guess at why this happens please post.

Well, the two screens that you've put up look very nice, but I have no idea about your problem.

Look forward to game shots.

Just to clear this up, this is my first full rom hack without a level editor or any all in one game specific game editor, so, for the time being it will be a graphic hack. In later versions, if i choose to continue to update, i should have edited levels, and maybe even music (nsf is so freakin hard though), but not in this one.

Now that thats cleared up. The problem with the hack is the fact it was made in Tile Molester which apparently glitches when run on windows and since I dont have time to wait for an update, i must switch to another editor. This makes my hacking "MUCH MORE ANNOYING"... So im starting over with a fresh new rom but i am keeping the graphics ive edited so far and importing them into the new rom, so as not delay any more moments of posting the in game pics... Sorry for the inconvenience, ill try to get the pics asap...

PS should i keep "Combat Evolved" in or take it out of the title?

That depends. If it's a replica of Halo to the letter, story and all, then yes, keep.

If it's a new story, change those words to something else.

"Combat Devolved" would be cute, since you're converting it back to 2D.

What kind of glitches? I can't say I've heard of things like that, and it works fine on my computers (one running 98SE and one on XP), so...

At any rate, The Kins has a good idea on the subtitle.

Otherwise, the screenshots look pretty good so far. Only thing I'd suggest is possibly adding another color to the title screen... Possibly a darker red, if the NES palette supports it. As it is, the top part of the name doesn't look the greatest.

EDIT: Sigh, layout still needs work.

Tile molester edits out some of tiles if two certain pixels in the corner in a tile set are edited while on the windows OS or so says HyperHacker in the SM64 thread... I think thats my problem.

As for combat devolved... I like it ill consider changing it.

I think it might happen on any x86 system, not just on Windows. Since x86 byte order is different from PowerPC (Mac) order, the program orders bytes wrong; you can see this in that you have to add one to (or subtract from) any address to get the correct colours for 16-bit images (not sure about 24- or 32-bit, probably similar problems). Apparently it doesn't save properly either.

It turns out that the problem with tile molester is not my problem. It seems to be an issue that a good hex editor could clear up. So ill have to wait to fix the title screen. Now that ive narrowed down this problem, i can get back to tile molester and re draw the sprites. This means i should have the preview gameplay screens by tomorow night. Sorry...

Can't wait for the new screen shots.

Q: What will you do with the "Large sprite auto-scrolling" levels?

I had a thought that the large sprites and auto-scrollin nature of these levels gives you the perfect oppertunity to make these "WARTHOG" levels.

You could keep the same size sprite for the main character, but have him driving a warthog (or other vehicle) with a gunner riding on the back.

Do you think this would work?

Edit: im still having the opening movie problem, ive gone through with a hex editor but i still cant find the problem. I know nobody seems to know much about this game since it has never been hacked but if somone does find the problem please tell me.

Thanks

I'm sure it will, but id have to asm to make it work. That will probably come later in the hack since i dont know how to do it.

and now to tell you that the gameplay sprites are a little messed up so i need to once again delay the screen shots, maybe late tonight ill have them up.

hmmm i bet those sprites are large enough to transform into a warthog without needing any ASM. Check it out.

later i might try to change some gfx to see what you mean by glitches. ltr

I finally got farther than the thrid level (i cheated... i found a glitch that lets you skip over levels) and i saw what the big levels are like and i think i can change it to a hog, this wil be an "upgraded" hog that has really strong hydrolics which allow it to jump. (one of you try comin up with why a warthog would jump...) Yes the glitches are annoying and anything you could do to help would be good. Im haveing some palete trouble now but i should be able to clear that up in time to show you the screens tonight.

EDIT: here is a pic i made up to show what gameplay should look like,

This is not real gameplay, It uses the current gamplay sprite but not the palette. Im having trouble saving the palette to the rom via the secret button (ctrl-m) in YY-CHR, which, i might add, is now updated to work without your virus scan f'ing it up and calling it a trojan.

That's because Ctrl+M doesn't write to the ROM. It just says use X pallete here in the editor.

GRENADES! XD XD XD
If you don't get it, you haven't seen the video of the "indestructable jeep of liberty!"

This is interesting, that's for sure. Can't wait to see how you manage to make an Xbox game into an NES game.
