None of them work.
I swear, I'll play a NES emulator for a couple of months... well, not even that, and it'll start breaking just like the actual thing. It won't load anything. Are there any NES emulators that DON'T do this!? Do any of you experience this problem? |

Explain which of the NES emulators that start breaking? I can't give a suggestion if I don't know which NES emulator is the problem.

This doesn't make any sense, you're not messing with your configuration setting or something are you? Deleting SRAM files? Anything?
You need to explain it in more detail for anyone to answer, what's the actual problem? Saying it's breaking doesn't help anyone help you. If you want a good emulator use FCE Ultra (Or FCEUd or FCEUXD, although they're made for ROM hacking-related purposes) |

NESten, Nesticle, RockNES, FCE Ultra (The best) and Nester are the good emulators

Practically what everyone else said, FCE Ultra.
If you've got a SERIOUSLY crap system (<300MHz give or take), then Nesticle, loopynes, FWNES, you know, DOS-based...whatever was great six or seven years ago... |

The only problem Jnes gives me is the odd crash when attempting to do netplay.

Originally posted by piratepunk That is not a glitch with FCEU, but a glitch in your ROM. Starting that bad ROM at level 0-1 is actually a sign of a good emu. I suggest you redownload a proper version of SMB. And as long as I'm in this thread: I never saw the appeal to JNes... ever. It's emulation is okay... but it's not spectacular, it's not blazing fast, it completely lacks features, and it's mapper support is sub-par. Yet somehow it's crazy popular. I never could figure it out. Anyone that recommends NESticle should be shot on sight. That is especially true for anyone who refers to NESticle as a "good" emu (I'm talking to you, insectduel). NESticle is a pile of steaming dog-shit. The only pro is that it's insanely fast... but then again so is loopyNES... and loopyNES is far less shitty. Typically though... anyone that recommends NESticle is a sign that that person doesn't know what they're talking about (there are rare exceptions though -- as NESticle is not completely without use... as much as it pains me to admit) Some of the emus at (or near) the top of everyone's list should be: NEStopia FCEU VirtuaNES Those are the "biggies" when it comes to all around quality (in terms of features, usability, accuracy, and compatibility). Nintendulator deserves an honorable mention for being the absolute best at what it does -- although I wouldn't recommend it here, since its use is somewhat specialized. Although these days, I pretty much exclusively use my own emulator (Schpune)... which is still in development. Though I have FCEUXD and Nintendulator on stand-by. |

There are NES emulators with speed up/frameskip ability? It is the only reason why I still have a preference to NESticle over the other emus mentioned.
What would be even nicer is a emulator with speed up ability that can be controlled with a key/button. |

Pretty much every emu has a fastforward button. You'd be hard-pressed to find one that doesn't.
I know NESticle had its +/- frameskip buttons, but those aren't quite the same... and not as useful, imo. (edited by Disch on 12-14-05 07:33 PM) (edited by Disch on 12-14-05 07:34 PM) |

Originally posted by neotransotaku That was actually why I used NNNesterJ for so long -- because FCEU had the button stuck on the keyboard like that. I believe NEStopia also has it configurable. There's probably a special FCEU build out there that makes it configurable as well... although I'm not sure where you'd find it. |

I think that NEStopia and NESter Public Beta 4a are awesome.
