Grey: "About 3:20 PM, now..."

His belt fastened around his arm snugly, lifted and suspended by his telekinetic skills. He inspected it: there didn't seem to be many buttons, but one was clearly marked. He pressed it, and instantly the light around him was refracted as he faded into nothing.

'This is interesting...' he thought. It was akin to his ability to psychically divert light around him, but far more effective... This, for example, wouldn't allow him to give off a heat signature, which could be detected by IR goggles. It also required no concentration, which was good. Chances are if the team wanted to go for a non-intervention path in the past, telekinesis would come in handy for making sure they didn't leave fingerprints on anything or accidentally jostle anything that didn't deserve to be jostled.

Assuming that by this time anyone who was going had picked up their cloaking devices, Professor Gyromite turned to Fem and nodded. Nodding back, she proceeded to pull a gadget from her pocket which was roughly the size and shape of a DS lite. Opening it up, however, revealed a single, wide LCD screen taking up the entire upper portion, and a right-handed Dvorak keyboard taking up the bottom portion. Holding it with her left hand and typing with her right, she began locking on to all the cloaking devices which had been removed from the box, excluding the ones Teddylot had knocked into the floor.

Gyromite: You're going to be in a cave a short distance from the temple when you first arrive. This is to help ensure that you won't be seen. Once there, engage the cloaking devices. You should be able to see the temple as soon as you leave the cave. Once you're done, return to the cave before opening the portal back to the present.

JDavis: Yeah, we got it. It's time travel, not rocket science.

Gut: Uh... Isn't time travel more complicated than rocket science?

JDavis: Not my fault the English language needs to update its phraseology.

Fem: *stops typing* We're good to go.

Gyromite: Engage!

As Fem pressed the Enter key, everyone who had grabbed one of the cloaking devices began to feel a tingling sensation engulf their bodies as the entire world around them.. The chairs, the tables, the room, the other people, seemed to dissolve around them in a bluish light, instantly replaced with what appeared to be, and was, a transporter pad of some sort in an underground lab. Instantly, the process began a second time, though now the light was reddish, and the transporter pad and lab were replaced with the inside of a cave.

Chapter 1: The Past

----------

The rocky insides of the cave were entirely brown, but strangely well lit, with no particular source of lighting visible. There was an obvious passage, and our heroes could hear the wind howling from its direction. It also seemed a bit cold in the cave.

However, our heroes didn't immediately dwell on any of this, as they suddenly realized that two of the people in the group had not been present at the meeting at all.

Troy dusted himself off. Keele did the same, making it very obvious that his robes hadn't been drycleaned any time in the past few years.

Troy : *I* was invited. Sooooorry, I wasn't able to cross the cosmos in time to be at the Acmlm building at 3:30 PM on this specific day.

Keele : You mean 3:00, ri-

Troy : Anyways, the last time I'd ever attempted anything like this, the person I did it with said he'd only gone back once and that I had to bring my own weapons, I should've known better... well, anyways I had made the mullet popular in this era somehow, it took a while to rectify that error. My assistant here was with me to ensure that I was eliminated if I somehow managed to mistakenly alter the time stream before I even arrived where I'm standing.

Keele : What the hell is tha-

Troy : (Play ALONG.)

Keele : ...what he says is correct.

Troy : And that's my story. So let's carry on here.

Grey stepped up to Guts, his expression and gait frank and dismissive.

Grey: "I think it's obvious that he took the one step more. Anyway, now that we've got ourselves a power game playing, what say we win it? We're close to the temple, while we can't exactly throttle wide open like bats out of hell and crash the gates, this should be a simple in and out operation."

Rushuna held out her arms and quickly moved her hands into different positions. All of a sudden, a flame appeared and hovered above her hands.

Rushuna: What? It's cold.

Kirby: Yeah, would've been nice for him to say that we were gonna be somewhere in the arctic or a mountain or something.

Kirby pulled out a large coat for Rushuna to wear. The half-drow put her fireball away and immediately wrapped herself in the coat.

Kirby: A kingdom in the past...

Kirby was paying little attention to Troy and Keele. Instead, he was trying to concentrate on the outside of the cave.

Kirby: Howling winds.. cold temperature... Oh no... This can only mean...

Rushuna: What's wrong?

Kirby: We're in some mountain range that deals with monks!

Rushuna:

Kirby: Oh geeze, this information gathering task might be harder than I thought...

Grey: "I think we'll be fine as long as they haven't taken a vow of silence. If anything, I'll see if I can get a reading from them if they don't speak the same language as us (which is very likely)."

He shivered and closed his eyes, focusing his thoughts on keeping his skin at a reasonable temperature. His eyes donned a dull green glow, and his skin flowed with psychic energies that kept the cold from getting too out of hand.

"This reminds me of the Dark Ages..."

Guts: But... We've been here before, in the present I mean... Er... The future from the current perspective... When we came back from Popstar. And the temperature was moderate. The temple was surrounded by mountains, making it rather inaccessible to most people, which is why it hadn't been discovered sooner, but it's not really on the mountains... Just in the middle of them.

Jack: I've got a bad feeling about this...

Kirby: Oh, you're right... But I don't remember it being so dang cold!

Kirby was about to start walking until Rushuna grabbed his backpack. She quickly pulled out a pair of gauntlets and a red scarf, and quickly put both on. Both were part of her usual ninja attire.

Rushuna: It's cold.

Kirby: You could've told me to stop. ;; C'mon, let's get going already before we freeze.

Kirby turned on his cloaking device and started trudging forward, immediately remembering to zip up his jacket.

Kirby: Bad feeling...... wind howling... .... The black wind...?

Troy : Barblizzra...

As Troy faded away, a red sphere formed where he stood and vanished away moments later. Very obvious heatwaves formed in the air.

Keele : Are you sure you should do that?

Troy : Yeah, I'm friggin' freezing, aren't you?

Keele : (...somehow, I don't think he was kidding about me being his babysitter...)

Kirby: I don't blame Troy. I mean.. he's cold blooded, right? This is probably one of the worst places for him to be right now.

Rushuna: We have warm blood.. But it is still cold.

Kirby: I'll be sure to tell the Professor that he forgot to equip heaters into these things Hopefully the temple itself isn't of the frozen variety..

Kirby turned his cap around and pulled the bill over his eyes as he pushed through the snowy mounds. The wind was blowing hard, forcing the airborn snowflakes to sting his cheeks. The halfed vision caused by the cloaking device also didn't help in seeing where to go.

Kirby thought to himself. "Guts said we've been here before... I can't remember it too much.. but.. I'm almost sure the elevated areas didn't reach out this far.. And.. we're nowhere near the poles..."

It wasn't until they were a great distance from the cave that Kirby thought of something.

JDavis: I'm wondering the same thing myself. Guts?

Guts: Uh... I can't see my watch... Or my arm... Or you...

JDavis: So switch over to robot mode and use your internal chronometer.

A moment later...

Gutsman: Uh... about 12000 BC. Give or take.

Those standing close to JDavis could barely make out the sound of him smacking himself in the face over the wind.

JDavis: Of all the stupid mistranslations that old crackpot could make... "Enthusiastic kingdom"... It's Zeal!

((That smack to the forehead must of hurt.. since we're all cold and such ))

Rushuna: Eek! Sorry!

Rushuna bumped into Kirby, who had stopped walking.

Rushuna: .... Kirby?

Kirby: I knew it. I knew it. I should've immediately figured it out when I felt the black wind.

Rushuna: Black wind?

Kirby: I don't understand it myself, but Janus.. That is.. Magus.. had often spoken about it. I can sorta feel it sometimes, and it tends to mean a bad thing..... You guys are going to keep going forward even if I suggest going back and checking Zeal's library, huh?

Zap and Twister had bunched themselves up in their clothing to trap as much heat as possible. They stood their shivering slightly waiting for the team leader's to make a snappy and hopefully warm decision. Teddylot, on the other hand, had already managed to find some stray twigs and rotting wood. Enough wood, in fact, to take over the world build a small fire where he was roasting a couple dozen marshmallows all at once ... on one branch.

Zap: I wouldn't mind going to the library ... it sounds warm there.

Teddylot: S'mores anybody? Anybody? I don't want to have to eat this entire mess of s'morey goodness on my own, you know. Well ... maybe.

Suddenly a pile of snow was thrown on top of Teddylot's fire by Jack (not that anyone could tell it was him), putting it out.

Jack: Idiot! We're TRYING NOT to be seen!

Guts: It would be nice if these things didn't prevent us from seeing each other, though...

JDavis: Most of Zeal's library has been cataloged into the ABID, so Gyromite would have found it if it was still there. Besides, the notes show that the information is literally referred to as having been lost. We already agreed to do this, so we might as well do it.

JDavis motioned toward the temple, which they were about two thirds of the way to, completely ignoring the fact that nobody could see his motioning.

JDavis: There won't be many people in there; the Zealian people do not enjoy being on the ground, so it's probably a few researchers at most. We just need to sneak in, take some pictures, and sneak out. Some of us this should be easy for, having trained in the art of ninjutsu. But some of you need to be on your exceptionally best behavior. You can't tell, but I'm looking at you, Teddylot, Melvin, Booster, and Smithy.

"But he obviously wasn't allowed access to the restricted books.. " thought Kirby.

Kirby: You're right, JD.

Kirby started moving forward again.

Kirby: I'm walking, by the way.

"The restricted books... I still can't bring myself to let anyone know about it..."

Kirby: You'll get your marshmallows after we get back, Teddylot.

Teddylot acted as if he weren't just scolded, but he did seem to tone down his actions by just a tad. He just stood there with an empty branch with sticky tips hanging at his side. His mouth was full of delicious goodness.

Teddylot: *muffled* Marshmallows? There are no marshmallows any more.

Keele moved closer and closer to the entrance of the cave, already ahead of everyone else. His eyes shined for a moment.

Keele : Library.

Troy : Oh NOW you've got trouble.

Mel stood at the entrance of the cave, looking out into the endless snowstorm raging outside, adjusting his glasses as he crossed his arms. Although it was unseen under his cloaking device, his almost trenchcoat-like labcoat fattened up instantaneously to provide warmth and protection from the elements.

MEL: I've never been to Zeal before...

SMITHY: Yes you have. We've been here, like, ten fucking times.

Kirby: And let's keep it that way, Melvin. This wicked snow storm means Zeal is floating above us (or somewhere). And I don't think we've got the library option anymore.
