If I recall my Physics II correctly, there was an equation that contained the reason why you can never use magnets to build a perpetual motion machine. I don't remember the formula off-hand, but it was because a certain variable was negative rather than positive. If I recall, my teacher's statement was that instead of doing the expected continuous movement, the machine would instead abruptly stop because of the interaction of the magnetic forces.

There is not enough air friction to resist the magnets fully. Using the momentum of a kinetic push to spin the wheel, plus the added effects of attraction and repel by the magnets, the device should move by itself.

EDIT: Thinking about it, providing a vaccum medium for the device to operate might assist in it's rotation.

The magnets can't actually add energy, though. So you're losing a small amount to air friction while gaining none.

Eh...I tried...I thought I could make it work, but there are too many things to work around. Plus my head hurts from thinking, so I can't use paint right now to draw out a diagram for a concept...

I'd like to point out that Rock and Roll is perpetual motion. Namely the fact that due to rock and roll never dying and that Lordi wrote an entire album dedicated to the end times fo rock and roll.

Rock and Roll will never die. So I think you might be right, Plus SIgn Abomination. The Van Halen days are far from over

Anyway, relating back to that concept I spoke of, I have something new to show:

This one is where everything becomes more mechanical, but the diagram as shown is both incomplete and incorrect on a small level. As you can see, the magnets now move back and forth on a slider so that the magnets will NEVER fully attract, and the repel action is the main locomotive force.

Not shown on the wheel is a spindle that will move the gears you can see to the right, which flips a magnet with both North and South poles around to "reverse" it's polarity. This is not much unlike a magnetic motor, where the poles are constantly changing to keep the motor wheel spinning. Except this change of polarity is mechanical, not electrical.

It's kinda hard to explain as is, but if you try to complete it in your head for now, it should make sense. I'll provide a flash animation and a diagram soon.

This thread has exceeded the maximum stupidity threshold that I'm willing to tolerate. Perpetual motion is a crock theory pursued by crackpots and teenagers who think they're smarter than thousands of years of truly brilliant people before them. Even claiming to have such knowledge is arrogance of the highest degree. Perpetual motion spits in the face of hundreds of years of known physical laws such as thermodynamics. Anyone claiming otherwise is an idiot and a crank, end of story.

PS: I don't want to see any stupid thread revival going on either. This thread has turned into clash of the morons and it's getting old fast.
