OK, good. I don't THINK that the AP will pick them as #1 but I could see Boise doing better there than on the coach poll.
I wasn't online last night so my reaction was "Oh, Florida upset Ohio Sta... oh... OUCH." Was it really that bad? EDIT: The rankings were already released. Florida #1 in both polls, Boise State was #5 AP/#6 Coach. (edited by Colin on 01-09-07 12:28 PM) |

No offense, but Boise had no reason whatsoever to be ranked number one. Yeah, they played great and they definitely proved that they can roll with the big boys, but they won their game in a close overtime match. Florida beat Ohio State 41-14 but the game was even worse than that when you look at the stats. USC beat Michigan handily. So in my opinion those two deserve the top two spots. I really don't see how Ohio State didn't take more of drop. Anyways, not taking away from Boise State, just pointing out that their victory, while one hell of a game, was not nearly as convincing for a number 1 rank as others.

It's not about who you think is better, though; we can all see that their schedule was weaker and that they probably do not have the talent to win a game against Florida or Ohio State, however, it's the principle of the thing... there should be no reason that an undefeated team finishes the year that way without a shot at the title, one way or another. Besides, you can't actually assume a damn thing... for all we know, maybe they could beat Florida. We'll never know because there is no kind of playoff. So, if someone wants to vote the team with the only undefeated ranking in the nation #1, then more power to them. You cannot prove that Boise State is a worse team than Florida, so why not?

We played horribly.
Ugh. The only good thing about last night is that I got spectacularly drunk. |

All the announcers kept blabbing about how Ginn got hurt. That was the only game I saw this year of OSU...so, is Ginn like their focal point on offense? I thought T. Smith was just this huge playmaker, and Ginn going down wouldn't really hurt them more than it appeared (and the announcers claimed) to?

Ohio State themselves won't use any excuses for losing, and the announcers were just trying to rationalize what they didn't see coming. I think it comes down to Smith and that O-line not seeing a D-line so fast all year, and getting killed because of Derrick Harvey and Jarvis Moss. |

Haha, it doesn't matter to me. I'm a Florida fan (my mom went there, and was actually in the marching band, in the U on the field I think), and to be 100% honest, I did not expect anything remotely close to this outcome. After Ginn's TD in the first 5 seconds or whatever, I was not really that optimistic. But from then on out, FLA dominated, and there wasn't much to it.
Now it's two years in a row with the Heisman winner losing in the Championship. Wonder how long that can keep up for. |

Yeah, Ginn wouldn't have won the game for them, but he is the biggest offensive threat on Ohio State, and probably the only one on the team that could out run Florida. But that really doesn't fix the problem because Ohio States O-line was getting beaten by a four man D-line by Florida. If you're front line can't keep 4 people from getting to the qb every single play you're never going to win. I don't really put much of this on Troy Smith, people say he's going to drop in the NFL because this game proved he couldn't compete with the speed that will be present in the NFL. Well, aside from Vic, and maybe Young, there's no one in the NFL that could handle speed like that when the O-line is basically letting them come in unimpeded. The O-line is why Ohio State lost, plain and simple. Okay, maybe it's not just the O-line, it's also Florida's D-line, they were huge in this game, and allowed them to essentially set up 7 men in coverage, which is the reason that Ohio State couldn't get anyone open. Plain and simple, Florida is fast, but that game came down to one team being outcoached by the other and one team having more desire to win.

Nick: Drunk because you had a good time or to ease the pain?
Having an unbeaten team finishing 5th in the polls just looks bad, especially if a team ahead of them had a really bad/embarrassing loss. |

Anybody seen the 5 degrees of BSU being the champions, it's impressive.
Boise should definitely be ranked at least 3rd (I still hold that USC and FLA are better, but then, how do you rank this, if you do who would win then I'd have BSU at 3 but if you do by record then BSU is 1) I definitely don't see how the coaches determined their rankings, but it's obvious they don't want BSU being too highly ranked because it obviously scares the big schools. Though this is a tough consolation prize, Boise gets to take rights to one of the greatest games in football history, that game was great to watch. |
