I'm quite a good ROM hacker myself, and would consider myself being one of the finest ones, regarding my operating system, Mac OS X. There's a small amount of tools for Macs, but I can still get pretty far with only a HEX editor. 
I search for ROM and RAM addresses occasionally, and collect/request data from various games and share them with as much as people as I can. I'm also a big supporter of open source products, and Freeware applications. That is all.
