I don't want to talk about the plot too much lest I spoil it. I didn't know much about it going in other than that it was about a group of women who go caving and come across someone - or something - down there, and horrorific hilarity ensues. So let's leave it at that.

I can say that this is a damn good creature horror movie. It does well at foreshadowing and building a sense that something is rotten in the state of OMGcreepycave. And it is genuinely scary, partially because the claustrophobic shots of the cavers crawling through twisty passages set me on edge even before the actual horror aspect kicked in. The aforementioned creatures are frightening, even when they're onscreen for a while (I thought I might be less afraid of them once we saw what they were - NOT THE CASE), and the characters seem like normal likeable people, not cardboard fodder for the baddies to chase.

The only downside is too many jump scares, but that's a personal opinion. I've never cared much for jump scares. The movie did have plenty of my favorite type of scariness - atmospheric tension that saws on my nerves.

I downloaded it ages ago when it first was released. It is a really good movie. Better than some of the stuff that studio has released...

Did you see the original version or the version that was released in the US? The US version has a shorter ending. I found the original ending on Youtube (OMG SPOILERS!111!eleventy), but I like the US one better because it's more ambiguous (although it arguably has the same outcome).

I'm wondering if there were any other differences between the two releases.

I saw the original version, could you post what happens in the US version ending? Spoiler-tag it if you must.

Sure. Blah blah US ending spoilers ahead.

Spoiler:
The US ending simply cuts off right after Sarah sees Juno's ghost. It shows that split second of her wide eyes and the darkness behind her, but there's no context to it. The viewer is left to decide whether or not she actually got out of the cave. I thought she did - I thought the wide-eyed shot was just an XTREEEEME closeup of a shocked face. I didn't notice the dark background until I watched the original ending.

Also, I want to mention that I'm glad I didn't see the trailer until after I saw the movie. It ruins one of the best scares...

Spoiler:
...when the women are hollering "Is anybody there?" and the infrared camera viewpoint whips around to show two of the women and a crawler standing right between them. The abrupt reveal of some twisted ugly thing - which we hadn't seen clearly yet - in close proximity to the protagonists was a sledgehammer to my nerves. I've said that I don't like jump scares - and I finally realized that it's because being startled generally irritates me - but I can't deny the effectiveness of well-done ones. This was the best jump scare I've ever seen, and I'm glad I got the full benefit by having no clue what was coming.

Ah, interesting. Yeah, that Sarah chick was a total whore for doing that.

Spoiler:
Did she (the one alive at the end) wound that chick (Juno?) because Juno accidentally killed that other girl?

There were a few things that contributed to Sarah's course of actions in that scene.

Spoiler:
1) Juno had an affair with Sarah's husband. There were some hints of closeness between them in the opening scene. (The husband attended to Juno first and seemed distant during the car ride.) Beth (the accidentally stabbed girl) somehow ripped off Juno's jewelry during the whole stabby incident, and she gave it to Sarah when Sarah came across her. It said "Love each day" - a favorite saying of Sarah's husband.

2) Sarah might have been afraid that Juno would bump her off to increase her chances of survival. Beth had said that Juno couldn't be trusted.

3) Sarah may have wanted to draw the crawlers' attention to Juno to increase her own chances of survival.

4) Sarah was full-on insane at that point.

I thought it was a great movie. I wasn't expecting much going into it, but I warmed up to it. The violent moments were all hilarious. I'm a gorehound, and I thought this movie did a great job with the spraying blood and fleshy bits and such. :o

I really don't like the US ending, though.

Spoiler:
I mean, the outcome is pretty much the same. For the US, Sarah sees a bloodied Juno, thus implying Sarah is left kind of crazy and perhaps feeling guilty for her actions towards her. But I don't like that as much as her DREAMING she escaped, and then getting what she deserved in the end--being trapped in that cave and then devoured. Either way it ends, though, the bitch Sarah kinda gets what she deserves. Sure, she had her suspicions about Juno killing that other girl on purpose, AND she finds out Juno was screwing around with her husband, but still...no reason to cripple the poor girl and leave her for dead. Juno may have gotten them all in that mess, but she did her best to help her friends through it, and she didn't deserve to be injured and left for dead like that.

I hope we get the original ending when it comes to DVD. I can see the advertising now: "Own the Uncut and Unrated version, with the ending you were never meant to see!" Instead of just saying it's replete with the original ending and keeping the R rating, I foresee an uncut and unrated version being released instead.
