Thankfully, this doesn't affect Hotmail or any of their other core services (Probably like news and such), but because their advertising revenue has gone down (AKA the money they make by advertising other people's services), they need to keep that steady line of profit in a certain margin.

Do what you need to keep the business going, but hopefully this doesn't get too crazy. Alot of people I know use things like MSN Explorer, Usergroups, and other things availiable through MSN.

Can't say I'm surprised, everyones out to make an extra buck. I've never been a huge fan of Microsoft products. Only one I use on a regular basis is XP.

It was bound to happen, any business is out to produce whereas marginal profit is greatest, not just Microsoft. Free things don't help Microsoft take care of their stockholders. Fortunately, there's an alternative to everything they provide, for example, just in case they feel free email isn't a good idea, there's always Yahoo!, Gmail, etc. That's the only thing that keeps them from charging for all of their services.

We will build extra services into MSN and start monetising this within a year.


How many of you actually bothered to RTFA? They're going to charge for new features they're making; I see no mention of charging for ones currently in use.
