I'm quite sure there's a generator or a program which lets you to input the initial numbers, and it generates the correct answer.

Sudoku or Picross generator will do.

You might also fool around with GNOME Sudoku, written in Python.

Picross is also known as "paint by numbers", so you might find solvers for it under that name as well.

O rly? I thought "paint by numbers" was where you have line art with numbers in each shape corresponding to the color that goes there.
