Okay, I'm not gonna flame this time. I'm just gonna ask nicely (I dont want my thread to be closed again). Why do so many people use GFX ripped from other games? I mean, can it be so hard to draw your own?

(Please don't flame me. I'm not trying to offend anyone. I'm just trying to understand SMW hacking.)

For some people, it just comes as a natural talent, like Icegoom, and for some it just doesn't. Most people seem to find it easier to rip from some other game, usually from a game that it hasn't been done yet.

People make graphical changes ultimately for the reason that it makes your hack stand out apart from the original SMW.

But aren't videogame graphics simpler than actual drawings, or do pixls make things more complicated?

This is what it looks like when I attempt to draw.

This is what it looks like when I rip.

Needless to say, I concur with ghettoyouth.

I find pixel art about a billion times easier than regular art, actually.

And Tatrion, sure the first isn't very good, but it fits with Mario several times better than the second.

Uh, no. Neither of those graphics fit. If you'll look, while the first shot is more cartoony, the shading is so way, way, off from Mario and the ? blocks and the key... it does not fit better.

If you made Mario match the hand-drawn graphics, I'd much rather play a hack where they all matched than a hack with rips like that, though. Keep going with the hand-drawn stuff, Tatrion, and you'll have a better product than a hack made of rips that don't fit.

You'd have to touch up the trees, of course. Those are ugly-ass trees. You can do better.
