I thought laws were meant to protect the best interests of those governed by them.

Or at least they were at one point, I'm not so sure about now.

Nothing overrides laws. Emergencies only do in the minds of the people who break them. Law is meant to be obeyed.

If you are transporting someone who is seriously injured or giving birth, I believe you can get a police escort to the hospital. Or call an Ambulance, which I'm guessing isn't fitted with this kind of technology.

At least, no cop is going to stop you from taking them in.

Bah. Most laws, certainly all the minor ones, are forceful suggestions, norms set for facilitating the smooth running of society. The law isn't a moral force in itself.

That would solve a lot pf problems. They also renew licenses here in Florida for 6 years without a vision exam.

...are you sure you don't really live in BC? That's basically what the guy who suggested this said: Capped cars wouldn't be slow at all... UNLESS YOU'RE A CRIMINAL IN THE FIRST PLACE.

So basically, car speeds shouldn't be physically capped, because that prevents you from breaking the law?

Nice one there.

I mean, is there anything that really stops you from breaking the law? Yes, in fact, there is, but it comes from you. The fear of retribution, the desire to obey rules, whatever. You're the one that decides to follow the laws.

Speaking of which, geeogree gets 50 bonus points for his suggestion.

Manufacturer solution? Install a peice of hardware in the car that hard-caps the top speed at 110mph. If any of you own a 3rd (and probably 4th) generation J-body vehicle made by GM, try it and you'll see what I mean.

||bass is totally correct on this. Certain sporty cars the governer is set higher, like my dads is set at like 155 or so. Even so I love speed and I would be pissed if something like this happend. My friend and I speed all the time on the local highway and everywhere we go, his car is a 87 Nissan Maxima and we got to 145 in it with still some room left. (Stickshift) This wouldnt just piss me off it would piss many others off as well. I think it might cause a riot if this were to happen ever.

So, you're saying you enjoy doing something that you know is illegal and that is undoubtedly dangerous to yourself and others, and you would be angry if you were forcibly prevented from committing that illegal act in the future?

If anyone feels the need to be going above 100 mph, you really should be going to a race track where they allow that sort of thing. That kind of speed is bound to either get yourself or others hurt on normal roads eventually.

In all honesty, it doesn't really matter to me, as long as it would be capped around 90 mph or so.

Also, I am definately in favor of making a license more difficult to get. Most people can get through any test or driving school by saying "I just get so nervous!" even if they suck at driving period.

Has anyone seen the new Chevy commercial where they claim that 9 out of 10 of there cars get 30+ miles per gallon. I don't know any manufacturer that can boast that, even if you did only figure on HWY mileage only.

You know what I don't know? I don't know how someone can manage to not notice that they're making a month-wide bump.
