umm...I don't think you can "hack" codes. useing a gameshark, actionreply, ect, is hacking it self, only you can't change anything permanent.

WTF, of course you can hack codes. This isn't the place to discuss it though.

anyway we got 3 days left before the Mario 64 edit is released. (hopefuly)

I was thinking I was going to make one of the mario 64 games funny and the other serious. But I ant too sure what i'm going to work on first.

I would try morphing the two toghether, like Goombas falling from the sky with insane amouts at one part while a chomp blocked an Invisi-cap box that gets you to a star.
It's just a suggestion, do what ever you want.

Morphing them does sound like a good idea, It would also save me lots of time as well.. I need to think about it though because of some reasons.

Sorry for asking, but I need to know to be able to release my hack and to test other's hacks. When applying an IPS patch of a sm64 hack, do you apply it to a regular sm64 rom or an altered one? What extention should it be, .v64 or .z64?

Well, if you're hacking the unmodified dump, then you make a patch against that; if you're making it against hte expanded dump, then patch against that one.

As for the byte-order of the dump (your question of V64 or Z64), you probably would rather use NINJA, which handles all Nintendo 64 byte-ordering itself, so you can make a patch that would apply to any of them. If you still want to use IPS, then just tell users which byte-order your dump was in (big-endian, aka Z64, seems to be the most common).

Allright! Quit newbing the place up around here or this thread is gonna get closed a second time! Alright. We have a few days until the release of the editor. A missing VL tone with quite a long absence from the board. And we are releaseing hacks... premature but good hacks. I'd say that the release of the editor is unlikely, but possible. If he shows up then the absence of VL will be explained probably as he has been working his ass off or just on a well deserved vacation.

PS The sound ripper is nice, but it ripps the sounds to your shared folder

You can't move the location or anything?

And Glitch Guy, I'm going to try and morph them..But it might not work out depending on what happens. (I don't want to give anything away)

Not for me. For me it rips the files in the folder where the ripper is stored.

Okay. Say he releases it today for all of the world. But as soon as you open it, an error pops up about it or maybe about your rom. Would you rather having the chance that happening, or would you rather wait until VL-Tone fixes the error and the editor is working better?

What I mean is, you can't rush perfection. You want a good editor, right? Not some crapped up one with tons of glitches and things that ruin your rom and emulator. The longer it takes, the better it will be. Remember over the summer when we were all anxiously awaiting the editor? Everyone was excited and anxious, but a dayor two later, VL tells us there was a slight error. He fixed it, but also added more features, like the copy/paste thing. Because he didn't release the editor, he was able to work on the problem. If he releases it, progress would probably go more slowly. So, we should let him put in as much as he can, if not, complete the editor, so that way there is nobegging and pleading for VL to rush and give the next version. He DOES have a life outside of reverse enigineering games, you know.

Oh, and you guys who are telling him to not work on the editor and to go take a vacation, plese stop. It's his descision if he wants to work on the editor or not. Besides, what if he likes working on the editor, which I am sure he does if he's kept at it this long. But anyways, you can't force him to take a break, nor can you force him to release the editor.

I was not jinxing anything. I was taliking hypotetically, there is a difference. Anyways, I believe this is your answer to VL Tone:

So here's the deal. I'll give you some updates and post here when I feel like it, but don't ask me any questions in this thread until I release the editor. Feel free to ask "legitimate" questions here, but don't direct them at me, I won't answer them (sorry!). Also, don't redirect questions to me.

I am sad now. the 29th will soon be over, and nowhere may this editor be found. I'm not mad, but I'm not like "oh dang. It wasn't released today. Better luck tomorrow."

I was lurking around the board since about 10 days before the eleged release of the editor (June 21st), and I finally joined the board on August 12th. I have since moved on and not followed this discussion pretty much at all, but I would still like to see what this thing can do (knowing, of course, that it cannot edit polygons).

vl tone plz reply and another thing,i keep trying to open text wrangler in stuffit to make into the folder (mac) and it keeps saying error so if you kould plz find a solution to that thankyou

Off Topic: This is why ROM Hacking should have approval right here.

EDIT: And there is a thing called a closing tag, use it!

Semi-on topic: I am a perfectionist, 99% of the time, and I'm sure others here are too. But when you say you want the editor to be released yestereday without any glitches is called "rushing perfection." So we should all just wait until VL-Tone FEELS like telling us the current progess.

Yes, I suppose your right. I've just been counting down the days, thats all. I dont mind it taking longer, but he didn't have to say it would be released before the 29th. If he hadnt, I would have been content waiting as long as nessesary because he is telling us that he needs more time. I know I shouldnt be complaining,(beggars cant be choosers) but I just like things to be cement solid in what you say, thats all. I dont mind waiting.

Well a tiny post like this doesn't make matters any better...

I'll admit I was excited for the editor yesterday, but I don't think we should worry about what happened to VL-Tone. He's probably been busy with (school? work?) or there's something in the editor he needs to finish up. I'm sure he'll release it anytime now. (Don't give up VL!)

Also, happy 10th birthday Nintendo 64! here's your birthday present...
