| Sigh... I'm completely new to hacking, and so far the only thing I've managed to do right is to change the maps around on Pokemon Ruby. I used Advance Map to do this. I then downloaded Elitemap, but that seems really hard to use... It messes up sometimes, and then closes itself too.
Mainly I essentially need to kow how to: # In Advance Map, I can edit the maps and rearrange buildings, create different paths etc. I can also change the wild pokemon, and the name of the town etc. BUT... I need to search and choose offsets (??? I have no idea what they are), and when I choose one at random, or ask the program to search for me, It messes the game graphics up 
Can anyone please explain to me what the hell an Offset is, what it does, and how it affects the ROM?? # Script editing. GAH I use programs like A Text, and at one point it let me change the text of the game, and it worked perfectly!! But, only for the text events in Littleroot Town (the first town in the game). Also when I try to do that again, It just has nothing Empty text boxes where I previously edited text  How does this work?

You have to search for the text yourself. THE SEARCH BUTTON MIGHT HELP # Graphics editing. GAH AGAIN!!
