I shouldn't of done this but...

I was playing around and loading games like Kirby Super Star on Lunar Magic and it said that it doesn't have the x200 byte header instead of saying it is the wrong title or format.

So if Kirby Super Star had that header then Lunar Magic can open it?

Considering it's only designed to work for Super Mario World, I would say not.

1) Wrong forum
2) You know... All games works differently. It's hard enough to make an editor for one game. Making it work for more than one game is... gah!

Loading a different game into an editor can have some pretty interesting results, heh.

Like loading Excitebike into YY-MARIO

God. Now you got me laughing..... XD

But yeah, it's likely Lunar Magic checks for the 512 byte SWC header before even checking that it's SMW first.

I don't see why. It's stupid. The header is nigh-pointless for people who don't use console copiers, gets in the way of manual address and pointer calculation, is easy enough to detect and factor out of any hardcoded data calculations when programming software (just add a +header to your equation, where header is an int equal to either 0 or 512)...

The only people who should care about headers are the copier users, and unless someone's very new at using copiers, they should already know full-well how to add headers onto their games.

Just a little addition, if you're going to distribute ROMs without headers please change the file extension to .bin or something so people know it doesn't have a header without looking at anything else.

.smc should be reserved for ROMs with Super Magicom headers...

The headers are useless (though they provide a handy metadata storage ), but in LM's case, it'd be quite bad to support both types. People would make a hack of a headered ROM and use a headerless one as the patch source, thus creating a patch with the entire ROM in it. N00bs would be confused when they apply a headered ROM patch to a headerless ROM and it crashes. Chaos ensues!

Is a pile of crap. Too many bugs.

Also, I'm sure LM would exit pretty quick with a 'This is not SMW' message if the ROM was the right size.
