Posted. I think I brought up a good point about rom hacks that attract exposure outside the general community (that being rom hackers and people interested in hacks) being included in Wikipedia, solely for the reason that the information has already been broadcast to the masses. It hasn't just been confined to a niche audience.

I included the Kotaku and Joystiq links, and while they might not be completely reputable sources, they certainly attract enough readers to be considered notable.

Is it just me, or do some of these longtime Wikipedia contributors strike me as extremely elite-ish?

Welcome to the internet. I take it you're new here?

Oh trust me, I've seen plenty of people who have the holier-than-thou mentality.

This reliance on RELIABLE SOURCES, however, leads me to believe that no rom hack is going to get a stable entry on Wikipedia unless news of it is published somewhere.

It's things like these that make me want to become a Wikipedia Vandal. I mean, when you think about it, their implications that said vandals have no life is funny, as they are the ones who stay on Wikipedia all day watching articles for vandalism, making asses of themself and such. It'd be fun to be one going against the flow.

There's also the notability rules, which are really a grey area. I mean, some video games can be released for platforms like the PS1 and they're extremely obscure, but if they were given an official release on the console then they should be cataloged, no? :\

If the article was still viewable, verifying information straight from the author of the hack in question would be extremely easy, and the creator of something is about as reliable as you can get. Of course, you know, the article's gone... it should also be mentioned that for touchy subjects like this, it is very rare that any traditional "reliable source" would cover this material. --72.193.68.111 00:10, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

What you want is original research - information directly from first-hand experience. Also per official policy (WP:V), reliable and reputable sources are required for all articles - fan made video games are certainly included. Wickethewok 00:16, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Which makes me wonder -- if going straight to the source isn't "reliable information", how, exactly, does any other game make it in here? Since, you know, there isn't really any reliable source outside of the video game creators (see also: every internet video game rumor in existance) --72.193.68.111 02:15, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

reliable and reputable sources are required for all articles

And not every video game released has those sources, and some that do require some serious sleuthing. I mean, what constitutes a source; quoting from the game manual or the back of the box?

I'm SERIOUSLY tempted to write a blog post on this. It's a Pandora's box.

GUTTERTAHAH has said that getting some commentary from DahrkDaiz would be needed if it pulled out of deletion. Surely he knows about this already; would it be possible for you to do something, DD? :/

I would think so, and IF anything happened regarding the hack that he knew about but we didn't, well...

One account doesn't cover all sites, huh? But even then if you've done a lot of work on the Swedish Wiki you can mention that.

I propose that, if it gets deleted, which seems to be very likely at this point, we should try to write out a new draft for the MA article. Using good references, with DahrkDaiz's approval.

Then we hide it somewhere for 3 months or so, when everyone should have forgotten about it and its buried in the archives.

Then, resubmission. I didn't get a chance to look at when the article was made before it was AfD'd, but I think it was around for several months :/

Failing that, we can at least say Acmlmboard is still on Wikipedia, albeit outdated.

I just _now_ heard about this. I'm prepared to step in and see if I can't do anything about it. But first, uh, how do I make my own comment? Do I edit the page like any other Wiki article or is there a special form to use to post my opinion?
