Meh, shit like that happens daily at Wikipedia. Stupidity and extreme differing of opinions is rampant there, such as here, another article currently marked for deletion for an even stupider reason. It almost makes me fall into support for people like Willy on Wheels.

This is what I've never really understood about Wikipedia,. Can't they just not read the articles they're not interested in?

Just a small point, the person who nominated MA for deletion created their account 6 days ago. Look

It certainly seems like a bad faith nom, maybe even someone with a personal grudge against this board or a different ROM Hacking board.

MA should be left alone, if only for the fact that it has recieved a form of notable media attention before, in the form of a Joystiqs article. Every other ROM that has a presence should be added to the ROM Hack page, or sub pages per game. Like, I think Demo World is a great hack, but doesn't qualify for it's own page. Especially since FuSoYa hosts a page devoted to talking about it anyway.

And comparing a ROM Hack to Cave Story is a far cry from reality. Cave Story is up there for numerous reasons. First and foremost being that it is argueably the most notable solo created game in ages. It has constantly recieved press not only for the fact Pixel made it over the course of 5 years and wrote every line of code and did the art for it, but because it's now getting an 'official'* release on the GBA. (And hopefully a DS port =x) There is a huge difference between ASM hacking a professional game, and single handedly writing your own gfx and gameplay engine.

Not to mention one that is probably the best 2D platformer in the history of man.

*= By official I do not mean the disallowed PSP one, I mean the one Pixel blessed for the GBA and gave the team his source code.

I agree with Ogre here. Mario Adventure is famous enough to deserve its own page, the others aren't. Winning two awards two years ago on one web site doesn't really count toward anything. Maybe if this were some huge site that was well-known by ROM hackers and players of hacks, they'd mean more.

I could give a hack an award tomorrow, and it doesn't mean it deserves to be on Wikipedia as a result.

You have to like the Wikipedia warning box when posting on the deletion page; basically, if you don't contribute then your opinion has no weight.

I'm pretty sure MA is going to pull through, unless there's a flood of Wikipedia vets that all nom delete.

The other two, sad to say, are pretty much gone, unless the situation changed since I last looked.

They should at the very least keep an article about rom hacking itself and some pages for the bigger hacks (and possibly translations involving a lot of hacking). I remember the whole deal with Star Ocean way back, that was kinda big . As for some random new guy filing for deletion, they should seriously just ignore him (same as they should ignore the guy trying to delete Family Guy stuff twice in a month with silly reasoning).

Wasn't Mario Adventure once featured in a print magazine?

There was a Thread about it on Acmlm's Board.

Soo, about wwwwolf's comments with counts of how many contributions people have made who've voted... whassupwitdat? Isn't it entirely possible that you only contribute when, say, you see something that needs fixin'?

I gave up on Wikipedia when they allowed trolls to nominate various SMBHQ-related pages (Even though NC was the first known sprite comic [Yes, even before Bob and George]), SMBHQ had been mentioned in not one but two magazines, and gets a hefty amount of people.)

If you want to put stuff which doesn't have to do with the 'real world' and isn't 'interesting' to them, prepare for the deletists to take them down. Make your own wiki. Heck, use the Acmlm wiki. I feel sorry for anyone who attempts to put their stuff on there, because I've seen them delete far more likely to be valid pages because some guy named Sinatrafonz hated SMBHQ.

Also have to love the fact that people who want an article deleted probably didn't contribute to it, which leads to two conclusions:

- It's a battle to keep an article, since any random Joe can say he wants it deleted for the most minor of reasons
- Deletion nominations should be weighted much less, since the pro-deletion group probably hasn't contributed to the article

I also like how the user "Doodoodoo" (who nominated this) hasn't done anything but nominate this, which leads me to believe that it is, in fact, some lamer.

Meh. Couldn't really think of anything. But that's definitely a great old school hack there.

I've done a few little things here and there with Wikipedia. I started pages off for a few NES games and cleaned up a couple of articles. Nothing major but nothing tiny like just fixing a typo here and there either.

Sorry guys. Guess the internet is too serious for ROM hacking.

On the bright side... Who gives a fuck if Wikipedia doesn't like ROM hacking? You guys still have it.

So let me get this straight... Lyle in Cube Sector gets a page but Mario Adventure doesn't.

Deletion reasion: The result was delete. The consesus conclusion of this AFD appears to be that this subject is not verifiable with no reliable sources (blogs are not reliable sources, nor is anecdotal evidence). Anything after we have determined violations of WP:V and WP:RS is not relevant. This is more a problem with reliable media sources not wishing to cover these type of games (probably for the reasons mentioned by SevereTireDamage) than with the notability of the subject.

Or my example, with Cave Story's page, which is completely freeware and recieves no media attention yet has a bigger page than Mario Adventure did, and isn't under threat of deletion.

It was deleted because it was a ROM hack. That's the end of it.

I should nominate Cave Story for the sole reason I never heard of it before and I find it uninteresting. Of course it will be kept, oh the irony.

Except that Cave Story is a REALLY FUCKING GOOD GAME and people all over the world would hate you for deleting it

EDIT: I would go as far to say that it is the best non-commercial game ever. And better than a lot of commercial games.

See, I agreed with that GUTTERHAHAH person or whatever that it could've just used cleanup more than anything. Seriously. It had a larger consenus of keeps than deletes, and the deletes were just crap like "Delete, per WP:NN" or whatever

The slight humor behind this is that GUTTERHAHAH is also the person who wrote the Lyle in Cube Sector article. I'm not sure if he just has different priorities or just is friends with the guy who made LICS, but... at least we know some wikipedians not from here support ROM Hacking
