"... And in today's news, a 19 year-old male who claims to go by the name of HyperMackerel has murdered the brother of who claims to be DahrkDaiz. Real names and addresses are being investigated as of now. Mark Curtis, KTVU, channel 2 news."

DahrkDaiz, you can try to save any future hack in C:\Program Files. Anything in there is left untouched after reinstalling Windows. That's how I kept some free programs that take like 3 days to download.

Hypermakerel Steels and puts on DarkDaiz's brother's cloths and leaves him in his boxer's in a dupster......and has a bar code embeded on the back of his head. DUN DUN DUUUNNN.

ALL my stuff is on the pro files as well, it's a good idea to use PFiles for saving.

Except as Windows installs, it deletes everything on the partition it is to be installed to. At that point, nothing is safe.

It does? If Windows erases everything... f*ck, there goes COTMK 1... I'm not trying to redo 4 months of lost work...

And yeah, try for an SMW hack. What with SpriteTool, Blocktool (not omega), LM, and a good tile editor, you can change almost everyting in the game right there.. Add in Lemetaal and you'd be off to the races!

Sorry to hear about this. I'm just about to start playing Mario Adventure 1, and MA2 was really looking promising from what I saw here.

Best of luck with your future projects. SMB3 editing tools would certainly be interesting!

I'm thinking two things when reading this.

One: This absolutely sucks. I was looking forward to this hack, and it's SNESish GFX, it's l33t ASM, it's incredible level design. Even the amazing looking bonus game. All gone now, or at least trapped in some dark void in your computer.

Two: What Xkeeper said. There's something about this that just seems....unreal.

Well, when I reinstalled Windows twice, my Program Files were untouched, and I believe C:\WINDOWS was also untouched.

But that's just me. I probably chose a basic reinstall instead of a complete reinstall.

Keeping your files in \Program Files is one thing, but even better is a separate partition. Hell, best is a separate disk, but then you're spending money. I keep my files on their own partition so Windows reinstallation doesn't affect them (I can even delete the Windows partition altogether and install Linux, and they'd still be there, but in NTFS ). For backing up I 7zip the files and copy them:
1) to a \Backup directory
2) to a second hard disk (from my old computer, too slow for real work, good for backups)
3) to various disks, CDs/DVDs, and compact flash/SD cards scattered about
4) to an FTP server
(real important files get all 4, less important get just the first 3, etc). I also have Textpad configured to save backups of any files opened in it every 10 minutes.

What?

Leave your cursor on Xkeeper's pic...

... Anyway, whether it's true or not, I find it a bit childish to make up drama, implying the hack is now dead (see thread title among other misleading sentences), while only 3 weeks got lost and the hack development will get resumed later. Looking for attention ? DahrkDaiz is a respected hacker and board member, and I wouldn't expect him to do that...

And yes, losing "only 3 weeks" can be quite frustrating and represent a lot of work... but what is it compared to the amount of work put into it since the beginning ? Not to mention that redoing things you already did in the past usually makes you get better results and/or get them faster.

But Dhark Diaz you've gone too far to quit now! We're all looking forward to this very much. Just continue to work as it is as an Smb3 hack.

As someone who lost a nearly 80% done hack years ago, I just have to say that all you whiny faggots who are accusing DD of lying should go fuck yourselves.

Dealing with the loss of something that took so much time, effort, and skill to work on (Something 99% of any hacker on this board has no fucking idea of), especially when it's not your own fault, is devastating. Even if he were to pick it back up, it won't result in the same hack that would've been done had he not lost this work.

Yes, this is real; I attempted to give him some help in recovering the lost file (as little as I could do over the internet), and he seemed awfully upset for this to be a joke; aside from the fact that he would've told us if this was something like that: DD isn't a pathological liar.

BadCopy Pro, search for lost files that windows can't see. you'd be amazed at what it will pick up. I recently acquired a computer owned by the military and using my various bits of knowledge was able to recover more than half of the HDD. schematics, documents you name it.

sorry to sound noobish, but that is cool but DD I am sorry to hear that about Mario Adventure 2. And maybe I have been bad when my bigsister and were kids, but I would never in my life do anything that bad on purpose. And well I am not a violent person, but I would have given my little brother a good yelling(if I had one), maybe even one single bitchslap, but what the littlebrother did is worse than anything I have heard of, in a while. To the mods, sorry for going into noob territory.

Well, the best advice I can give you is to do a full search for anything that had to do with the ROM, and the ROM itself, and hope that, by some miracle, something turns up. And honestly, if it's a hack THAT good, I'd spend another 3 weeks fixing it up no matter what.

(note, I'm not saying I don't believe it, I'm just saying it's the most unreal and random way to lose a file I've ever heard, that it almost sounds false. But now that I think about it, it's just unfortunate )

That stinks I loved MA2!
With less difficulty spikes than MA, nicer graphics and a great new engine "remake", it looked like what would have been one of the best hacks ever. Try to look for it, or at least carry on with your backup.
I'd say keep on with the NES SMB's. Those are the ones you know best (especially SMB3) and LvM was already going great.

ps. ever thought about adding protection to not allow LvM's levels to be edited in SMB3WS? The levels opened fine from the demo, albeit with graphics corruption..
