Since when has it been about people? It's been about advertising. If they let us touch it, it's only because they think we're more likely to buy a copy if we do.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Sony rumor was true, though. I can't imagine they have much to show.

So now where do you draw the line with the media? Do you allow a large web presence for blogging/podcasts? Go for mainstream media as opposed to people who know the subject matter?

I know E3 grew into something nobody expected, but it really wasn't all that bad...

5,000 only? Big media? I wanted to go some day damnit!

Well, then, it's a good thing I'm in the media, huh?

...oh. Wrong field. For reals, what's Kirby PopStar gonna do now?

He's not around anymore but what are the odds he did go this year? Rich little...

I'm guessing there might be a FEW loopholes for people to get in but certainly not enough to boost that 5,000 figure too much.

....and E3 '07 was the year I was told I would go (I knew someone who was considered "media" by some means who -claimed- they would take me I didn't exactly have my hopes up in the first place but still ) Well, its understandable why they might do this but...I don't know, something tells me theres going to be a negative effect from it, but that's just me *shrug*

As others mentioned, while the idea of a big video gaming media festival was cool and all, was it really necessary? The main purpose was to hype up games, which thanks to the Internet and various video game news sources, you can do year-round. Could do it for years actually...witness Metal Gear Disappointment 2: Sons of Daikatana, which had been hyped up on a pretty continual basis since essentially the first Metal Gear Solid's release (And let's face it, with the hype it got, anything less than perfection in all respects was simply unacceptable).

So essentially, I completely understand. E3 was fast becoming a waste of resources that could have been used, you know, developing games.

Hardly devestating news unless you're one of the cab drivers who took home an extra $500-700 in pay for E3. If this translates into games with better gameplay, I'm all for it. I'm not holding my breath though.

Emptyeye: It's also the fault of companies for rushing stuff so that it's ready for E3. If the game's playable and doesn't have any major faults, show it. If not, show a video or several videos.

PAX could really benefit from all this.

I hadn't even thought of that. PAX could end up being bigger than E3, which would undoubtedly be surreal for PA.

I don't know about bigger than E3 because we have to see what E3 is in May. But as far as the atmosphere goes, it should beat it handily.

E3s atmosphere in the past has been about as good as some sort of creepy political rally. Seriously, it is controlled and full of secrets. People paranoid about missing something and trying to spy in on conversations to get a scoop. E3 has sucked because it strangles the industry's ability to make ground breaking announcements. Your stocks are gauged at the time of E3. If you make an announcement two months later that should've been made at E3 your stock numbers are going to reflect that =P
