As you can see by my signature, I've already seen this. Although his analogy wasn't too far off, I think what he was trying to say was that the last mile line have a set bandwidth and can only carry so much data at once. Or atleast that's what someone was saying to him. It seems like someone tried explaining how it worked to the best they could using term he would understand, and he just took them way to literally.
I like the part where someone sent him an internet and it took too long to get to him.

Or we can just take the easy way out and blame all the problems on the people who don't speak English.

You know, although his statement may not be understood by most people, the senator makes a point. Too much internet usage clogs bandwidth. What he fails to realize is that this phenomenon (ZOMG!) only happens when the END USER decides to clog their own little "Tube", which is separate from all the other little tubes that go to other computers from the big "Funnel" (We can only assume).

And I think emcee was right too. The guy just took the words given to him that explained it to him, and tried to elaborate on it but ended up making a fool of himself.

As much as I laughed at that guy, I must admit that when I was explaining to my dad why a slower DSL speed was making our connection better, I compared the internet to a toilet.

How does a slower DSL speed make your internet better?!

Although... it woudl take a lot to 'clog the tubes'. I dunno if they're really cloggede right now though... and all data impacts the 'tubes' relative to size, not content. horse racin gwould probably be slower than that picture of Darla Doing Detroit or what-have-you.

To everyone sorta-kinda defending him: I understand that this statement was probably originally grounded in truth, but in the transfer of this information from the computer / hardware techs to the congressman's thinktank / PR guys to the congressman's speech writer to the congressman himself, we have wound up with a hilarious quote. I'm not saying he should be kicked out of office, just mocked in public and on the internet.

All you asshole romhackers got goombas stuck in my internet.

Goombas are two-dimensional. They don't take up any space if you turn them sideways. (Except those damn SM64 hackers...)

Basically, data was coming to fast and getting corrupted because there's something wrong somewhere in Verizon's network.

I explained it to him with this:

If you have bad pipes, flushing less toilet paper at a time makes it more likely for everything to get through without problems.
