Finaly im going somewhere with this hack I started over two years ago, in that time iv realeased about 3 betas and 5 restarts now iv finaly pulled everything together and set a release date of January 12th 2007.
There has been a big change in the storyline (since last time):
Crion is part of a bunch of Islands Called the 'Zilon Territory' it is part of the main pokemon league but run by a different govenment. This new govenment was founded by a man called Johnny Zilon. Just after the govenment was founded Johnny was kidnapped and taken in to hiding on one of the many islands of the Zilon Territory...
Thomas Zilon (Johnny's brother) sends you on a quest to find his brother.
Violet is like reading the preface to a story, picking up clues for the next game.

A quote from CBM that fits my hack perfectly
"Keep in mind, this is a GOOD Pokemon hack, it isnt 1 of the million of ***** ones, its good"

Apparently, he won't release this hack in full for another 1/2 of a year.

So far, everything looks good, Cartmic.

Yeh, theres so many anoying posts in there these days, I blame it on the wider selection of tools avilable these day. Most new (or some times even a few months) pokemon rom hackers have never heard of a hex editor, in my day of starting it was the first tool used and what intrested me about rom hacking (getting into the internals of the game and seeing how it works).

The fact that you posted this in the wrong forum (it's not that hard to get into Pokémon Hacking), actually felt the need to say that, and did everything in this screenshot horribly wrong makes me wonder how true that is.

Moved to Pokemon Hacking.

Keep anything related to that out of RH. This seems to be quality; anything that doesn't fit the quality standards of the Pokemon hacking forum doesn't go in here either.

I hate that font and the lovely text structure HyperMackerel pointed out also makes me wonder what's so wonderful about this. The rest of it dosn't seem horrible buuut I'll have to try the patch. The font is really going to kill my enjoyment of this though.

Did you use poketext for the text? That is a VERY common glitch with poketext.

My advice would be a good hex editor and table file.
Tablefile:
54=PK
55=+
58=$
7F=
80=A
81=B
82=C
83=D
84=E
85=F
86=G
87=H
88=I
89=J
8A=K
8B=L
8C=M
8D=N
8E=O
8F=P
90=Q
91=R
92=S
93=T
94=U
95=V
96=W
97=X
98=Y
99=Z
9C=:
A0=a
A1=b
A2=c
A3=d
A4=e
A5=f
A6=g
A7=h

Why, WHY, would anyone use that when you can just hack the game a regular way. Also, having "Person: bla blah" is not how its done in Pokemon or in most games, it never says the person's name who is talking it just looks...bad.

I thought the point of hacking was to leave the old and make something new.

Sometimes you should have the name boxes though. Like what if your character talks?
, it never says the person's name who is talking it just looks...bad.

A lot of rpgs have the name or a picture of the character to show who is talking.

Off the top of my head there is Animal Crossing, Riveria, fire emblem etc.

But the text boxes are so small in Pokemon for it to have, say "Old guy: I sure love to battle!", "Youngster: RATATA is purple!", or "Gym Leader: You're going down!" and stuff...it just looks wrong in such a small space. Maybe I'd like it better if that font wasn't so scaring. If there was a dialogue exchange I agree it would be needed. Though I've yet to see something like that done effectively..(in fact a lot of games I see have the first character completely silent, Golden Sun comes to mind)

Ooh, I just thought of something to fix that, and it'd probably be easy to do. Hack the textbox code so that the first line of a box begins one line up, writing overtop of the border. Then you could just write your text like this:
OLD GUY
What's that sonny?

And it'd show his name on the border itself, and the text on the first line, like on the screen where you choose your name. The only potential problem, which still probably wouldn't be hard to fix, is that the text might start there again after a page break. (Simple workaround: Put a single-line break after each one. )

*Adds that to his Official List Of Hacks To Make For G/S If I Ever Find A Working Game Boy Debugger*

Because it was a bit confusing when editing in Thingy. I think I'll use Translhexation to fix it.
