I was searching through the uniracers memory with a hex editor in order to see if i could find the fabled 3x and 4x megas (anyone who has played this game would know what i mean). Anyways, ive found two interesting things in there.
Apparently theres a move called "rollout". I cannot find how to unlock this in game, and even if it is still in the game. (offset BCCC7) Theres also something that says "secret cheat mode activated", something which hasnt been found in game yet.(BCD67) Anyways, my knowledge of this subject is pretty small, so i was wondering if there are any uniracers fans out there that could help me find out how to activate these in game, perhaps with an action replay/similar, if they are still in there. Your best chance is probably finding someone who can disassemble the game code. If there's nobody of that kind here on Acmlm's then try romhacking.net, maybe one of them has some time.

Rollout was probably reduced to Tabletop if it is what it sounds like it is. It sounds like a Roll/Flip that you would do while Tabletop...ing. Secret Cheat Mode may have been remnants of a feature they had in for debugging, but I suppose it's possible that it's still in there.
A lot of the time, you'll find data in ROMs that never amounts to much. In the old days, you could find some pretty sloppy stuff. I've even heard of a game that had some of its source code ending up inside the commercial ROM in the end. While finding text within ROMs is always a good indicator, it doesn't necessarily mean those features still exist. (Does the Map Select thing still work in the retail Ocarina of Time game? I'm not sure it does) |

If memory serves correctly, Beatmania 5th Mix for PS1 used its source code as a dummy file on the CD, if that's what you're thinking of.

My intuition tells me that 'Rollout' is just something the game says after you do a Flip City or something, but it has been quite a while since I've played the game, so I'm probably wrong.

nah the things that are said after a big combo are stored in a seperate part of the code. My intial thought was that a rollout saounds like a doing a flip city during a tabletop, which may have been removed from the game.

Originally posted by BGNG Here are a few nifty whoopsies and cool finds in a few games: Monstania (one of my first major completed translations) had text and equipment relating to a fishing minigame that never made it into the final product. Dragon Quest 5, apparently, had a phone number belonging to one of the devs buried in it. The PAL-region release of ICO (for the PS2) necessitated a DVD-size disc (instead of a CD, like the NTSC-US and NTSC-J versions) because the devs accidentally left the game's full sourcecode on the disc! And finally, Mystic Ark (another of my translation projects) seems to have a fully-functional debug mode in it. Or at least, I'll be pissed if it's not at least somewhat functional - I spent a lot of time rewiring the debug menus in the text :p In order to activate it, I think you need a "Debug Crystal" item, but I'm not sure how to use it. I haven't tried obtaining it yet, waiting for the English scripts to be fully functional first. |

Super Mario Advance has a sound effect from Zelda in it. Perfect Dark also includes all the menu text from Diddy Kong Racing.

Part of DKR was probably used in PD then. maybe part of the menu code, and the DKR text was filler until the PD text pointers replaced the DKR pointers.

The credits to Metroid 2 are found in Super Mario Land 2 o-O in Pokemon Emerald, they also put in all the music from Fire Red (and I mean all of it, including stuff like intros) in, but its never used except for one song (Mt. Moon's theme is used in Altering cave) o.O Pokemon silver also has some seemingly useless unused items all with the same name (which currently escapes me)

I don't mean to sound like a moderator, but this is a discussion about Uniracers, not unused data in games.
