Instead of makinga million topics on questions that can be easily solved, reply with your question in this thread and someone will answer.

I think the title needs a small change then.
The Hacking Questions thread - POST ALL |simple| QUESTIONS HERE!

Other than that good idea. It will keep the forum somewhat neater.

Now its just a question of, will people read the rest of the thread or post questions that have already been answered at least once Good idea, though. First post should tell newbies to Read the Damn Stickies.

Thats what the very large announcement at the top of the forum is for, but it dosn't look like they read THAT either well its worth a shot, I honestly don't care anymore. If this gets out of hand, I'm closing it though. I'll try anything at this point

Well I just had to register to post a simple question:

In CBM's Red Megadoc it mentions that the Starting Pokémon data is located at 3A1E3-3A1EB. I went there and quickly figured out the format, so I edited the byte that was 99 (bulbasaur) to 2F (psyduck). Nothing changed. I changed the byte before (the starting pkm's lvl) to 04 to see if something was really wrong, and Bulbasaur was STILL lvl5 after it was given to me. I even zeroed out the whole section from 3A1E3 to 3A1EB and nothing changed. What the HELL am I doing wrong?

I knew I would get answers like this... I should have added a word of precaution before my initial post: "Don't treat me like a retard."

Yes I saved, and DUUUUUH yes it was the original version.

EDIT: Well I just figured out that the bytes I was editing were for the RIVAL's starting Pokemon. Now I just have to figure out where the other bytes are.

This post sounds like you're being a hypocrite and in turn are treating the senior board member Darkdata like a "retard". He was merely being helpful, he's been one of the most helpful hackers in the Pokemon forum for a while, so please show him some respect.

In regards to you wondering where a certain offset is, there's a "usual offsets" thread in the stickies, I think Pokemon red might be mapped out up there. Ah, What do you know, it is. Check it for the offset that you need.

I am going to check that now for that offset.

3A1E3-3A1EB Starting Pokemon Data
Nope no more closer data then what you have. Mess around with it some more like you are doing. I am positive that you will find it.

That's where I checked first and foremost. The only offset referring to the Starter Pokemon are those I tweaked already, and those ended up being the rival starter bytes. Initially I searched for the bytes "05 99", with 05 as lvl 5 and 99 as Bulbasaur's value. I thought I had found the right thing, but to no afail.

Of course this would have been much simpler if I had Starter Changer--
EDIT: Found it.
EDIT: Well I don't think my help serves a purpose now. Sorry for insulting you, Darkdata.
