The question is...
Is it possible, and if so how? Can I make a bigger overworld? I was planning on making some 200 levels, but that would be like every tenth square is a level, including the water. That I don't want to do. So like, a wider overworld or something? Can I make two or more of the subworld maps (like yoshi's island, bowser valley, the vanilla dome, etc.) a single map, I wanted to make a subworld that's two or three maps large. Mostly for the purpose of map scrolling, it'll be a confusing map you see... Lots of secret levels and such. Can I make a vannilla dome colored island on the overworld or is that impossible. I mean I could change the pallette but I wanted a desert color, a vallina dome color and a grass color ground. I don't think that's possible. Oh well. |

For starters, you can't have over 200 levels without extensive ASM Hacking. The overworld only allows referencing 96 levels (coincidendly, the same as the number of goals). Second, in theory, yes. But as before, you can't do it without ASM Hacking.
And you cannot have a Vanilla Dome colored island on the overworld...without a little work. But you can work in a third color, like I did. Note that this sacrifices the green tint to mountain boarders on palette 5, but it looks fine without them (you'll have to use palette 7). It CAN be done. (edited by asdf on 07-11-06 10:56 PM) |

thanks, I guess I'm down to 96 levels then... Sigh, and yay, less work!
Do pipes count as levels? I dont want to extensively hack with ASM! Noooo! I'm gonna go cry myself to sleep! Or I could ask more questions... Is it possible to make a path be both a secret ending for one level and a normal ending for another? Can I make more submaps? Is the limit for mapping of any kind met? Can I replace levels after you clear the secret level thing? (Im mking a totally new map but I wanted to make a secret level thing like in the normal game...) |

Originally posted by Bones_the_Great Yes. But you only have to have one level name reserved for pipe names. For your next question, no. If you're talking about overworld paths and exits though, then yes. It's even done in the original game (with Forest of Illusion 1 and Forest Ghost House), if I remember correctly. You can't have more submaps without a ridiculous amount of ASM. What do you mean by your final question? What secret level? (edited by asdf on 07-11-06 11:16 PM) |

ok by one level do you mean I could have like ONE pipe level that all the warp pipes in the game go to different rooms in? Cuz that would be awsome.
i thought they might've but its been sooooo long since i played the actual game damn submaps by secret level i mean the special place with the really hard levels. The one that after you beat it all the koopa change color. |

for your large sub maps, you could use pipes, it wouldn't be as smooth but it'd work.
and for the secret level, i think he's talking about SPECIAL and no i don't think so. Also you can compensate for the limit of 96 overworld levels by having larger ones, with many multiple boards. |

Well as I recall you can make them do two run throughs, but it requires some...creativity. (edited by ziratha on 07-12-06 07:33 PM) |

Making 200 levels? More overworld space?
The solution? Simple: Two different hacks. Really, the same thing happened to me. I had so many conflicting ideas, so I decided to start a SMWRMK2 for all other ideas; plus I now have room for more levels. (edited by peter_ac on 07-12-06 08:05 PM) |
