Artist: Tito "El Bambino'
Album: Top of the Line
Song: Tuve Que Morir

Reggaeton singer. His debut album as a solo artist since the duo of Hector & Tito separated. This song sticks out because in it he is speaking concerning faith and religion. "He had to die to ressurect himself" Most likely a metaphor. I like the song since it is a nice change from the othe songs from the genre that involves shaking booty and such.

These times:

Song: Discreet Music
Artist: Brian Eno
Album: Discreet Music

A half hour long electronic ambient tune, I listen to it frequently when writing college papers or reading, excellent mood and confers a slight feeling of nostalgia upon listening (in my case anyway) Excellent and recommended.

and

Song: The Choke
Artist: Skinny Puppy
Album: Bites

Agressive EBM track with excellent synth lines, creepy samples and monster vocals. Semi-danceable, but I prefer this song when I get home after a crappy day, gets a part of the anger away from me.

I'd also say "You Suffer" by Napalm Death but at 1.3 seconds I don't consider it "listening" as much as "hearing"

Well, I'm switching gears with some 80's stuff now:

Song: Sunglasses At Night
Artist: Corey Hart
Album: First Offense

Pretty great song here (maybe the only good one on the album, or by Corey Hart for that matter). The song starts out with some electronic and synth going (kind of sounds like the same introduction for the Eurythmics song, "Sweet Dreams"). The straight-forward lyrics soon turn into several emotional and sudden outbursts from Mr. Hart (my favorite part), then repeat. Great song though

Artist: Machinae Supremacy
Album: Redeemer
Song: Through the looking glass

This masterpiece simply is amazing, I hope I can get my hands on the album soon.
Its piano intro is rather short, unlike some other songs (Soundtrack to the Rebellion for example), but nonetheless they impress with nice vocals and powerful riffs.

The band already proved earlier its talent. Since I saw their new homepage I feared they are getting off their style (SiD metal, songs are covering a large variety, but the majority are "power metal" songs). But after seeing they are fortunately still offering most of their songs for free and the two samples (full length), they seem to stay on their old path (at least until the current album).

I didn't like their "Sidology Part 2" track which was released after a longer downtine, just before Redeemer, but even if only half the part of the songs are as good as "Through the looking glass" and "Rise", it will be worth every penny.

Rocky Horror Picture Show - Science Fiction Double Feature

This is the movie version of the song, which is absolutely awesome. I mean, who doesn't like RHS? I've watched it a good dozen times, hell, I've even been to live productions of it twice. The opening song, though, is absolutely awesome. It was the first song that I heard from it (duh!) and it was the song that stuck with me the most because of its off kilter tone to the rest of the movie. The song easily drops lots of pop culture references from the late 40s to early 60s. Which I adore. Although no one can deny that the greatest song on RHPS Motion Picture Soundtrack was either Whatever Happened to Saturday Night? or Eddie.

Triple Corpse Hammerblow by Children of Bodom

The intro is really awesome, a great hook. The riffs are all catchy and fit really well. One of my favorite songs from CoB. It's a really energetic song, and the solos are really good too.

Song: "Black Vomit" (played at .4848~ the normal speed)
Band: Wolf Eyes
Album: Burned Mind

This is their latest "big" release, actually staying in print (sans the vinyl, which this is). I think it's their fourth official album. They're an experimental electronic group but with the aide of Aaron Dilloway on this release, they tear things up in an atmosphere that sounds more like noise than anything they've done. Sure, it has rhythm but it's all very abrasive, confrontational stuff and isn't for the faint (feint?) of heart. Considering this is playing on the portable record player I have (not the big, decent-fi one) and it's playing at .484848~ of the normal speed -- 16 rpm instead of 33 -- it even sounds more like a recording straight from Hell. I love it.

The first 4 minutes or so is a repeating drum part that sounds like thunder. After that, Aaron Dilloway's throaty voice comes in as the feedback and screeching comes in behind him. It lasts until about 8 minutes in when a climax comes in. It's really hard to explain; you'd have to hear it. Do so, I suppose.

Ai Senshi (translated as "Soldiers of Sorrow") - Inoue Daisuke

It's one of the in-anime songs from the original Mobile Suit Gundam. I'm listening to it, and the other vocal songs from the series and its sequel series, being played on my PS2, in the BGM gallery, as I take a break from actually playing Gundam vs Zeta Gundam, a really great game.

Artist: Angels and Airwaves
Album: We Don't Need to Whisper
Song: Valkyrie Missile

Danielle got me hooked on this. Blame her.

New album. New band. Just obtained it through a torrent. Boy. It surpassed my initial expectations. It doesn't start off quickly and takes some time to get started the song but the mood it puts me is calmness. The entire album and this song make me think about space, stars, and the universe. The way they play is a mixture of arena rock and alternative in a sense. I really can't describe it aside from 'It's good'

YAY

I'm listening to that too. Got it soon after he did, and I'm really enjoying it. I had two songs that were previously leaked, but one was rather pop sounding, and the other was more... I dunno, new wave? So I was really waiting for this album to figure out if I liked this band. And yeah. Love it. Love them. Winwinwinwiwiwniwniwwin.

Jacques Dutronc
?????
Le Responsable

I am currently trying to bring my french skills back up to code. They've become woefull decrepit. I suppose this is what happens when you are not consistently exposed to a language and have little, if any, ability to practise it. Mind you, this is the Devlish France French, rather than Quebecois - which is the best of all the French. Onto the song, though. It's kinda like British garage rock, or sounds like a slight pre-cursor to some modern indie-rock. The rockin' kind. Not the whiney kind. It's really quite an enjoyable song. Mind you, I only discovered this artist while listening to KMFDM's cover of his song Mini, Mini, Mini off of Hau Ruck.

"Viva la Raza" - Eddie and Chavo Guerrero.

RIP Eddie... I just thought I'd listen to that and think about the days of Eddie in the WWE. The lyrics are catchy, has me lip-singing through it all.

"..We can't be weak comin' from the streets in the ghetto. At the end of the week we get to keep your dinero. You're fast asleep when we sneak in your casa. your life sucks when you're bankrupt and we laugh, can't trust none of us 'cuz we Latin..."

Used to hate this song only because I skipped it alot during the game. Things changed though, really getting a good taste for this sort of music.

np: Suzanne Vega: "Luka"

RESPECK the Iron Sheik and RESPECK Suzanne Vega. Probably her biggest hit, making the world safe for the female singer-songwriter... again. Great song, I must say, so that kinda sorta speaks to her songwriting ability (which is why it's good). Instrumentation's nothing too special (this is 1987, so it kinda sounds like it), but that's not why we're here (although her voice REALLY helps). Song's about child abuse, which wasn't really much of a topic in music back then. It's such a sweet and seductive song, until you think about the lyrics. Then you think "yeah, that IS fucked-up" and go back to appreciating the song.

Yes: "I've Seen All Good People".

Off of The Yes Album, the album that made Yes superstars in most of the world (Success in the United States would elude them until their next album, Fragile). At nearly seven minutes, clearly this shows some of their progressive tendencies that they would later become known for, yet there's also a very sort of hippie-ish vibe to it that's largely lacking in the alter material. Listen to the first three or four minutes of this song and tell me you don't want to hug some trees as you do. You can't do it.

Lyrically....yeah, I have no idea. That's par for the course for early Yes. Though taking a look at the lyrics, and listening again, it really does seem that this could have functioned quite well if the two parts of the song (Part i is "Your Move", part ii "All Good People") were simply seperated and made into individual songs.

Artist: The Postal Service
Album: Give Up
Song: Sleeping In

Danielle did it again. She influences my music habits.

This song caught my eye because the title of it simply speaks to me. 'Sleeping in' oh boy. Fun. But about the music. The concept of the song basically speaks for itself. 'Don't wake me up/I plan on sleeping in' But. The arrangment of sounds and the vocals are nice. They have a slight 'pop' sound to the album and while I am initially put off by such things, it works well here. I am actually preferring them over The Shins.

When listening to this album I think about riding a bike in the country side for some reason. It's a nice album that puts me in a calm state of mind.

Artist: Daft Punk
Album: Homework
Track: High Fidelity

Every once in a while I get back to listening to Daft Punk's first two albums (Human after all being very bad IMHO). The duo produced some of the greatest tracks I have ever heard on these two albums, High Fidelity from Homework being my favorite of them all. Excellent French House music with discreet and filtered vocal samples with an excellent groove, perfect for both writing term papers or dancing, depending on the situation and mood. Highly recommended for those liking electronic music (danceable or not).

np: The Wonder Stuff: "Caught In My Shadow"

Nice, surprisingly poppy, uh, Britpop? From about 1991, it shows that the whole quiet verse/loud chorus formula is PLAYED. They've got a decent, laid-back chorus here, but the verses are more frantic, even though the music itself doesn't really change tempos. The vocals switch from half-time to normal time. Lyrically, it's really simple, seems to be about growing up and seeing things in a completely different perspective: "These streets used to look big/this town used to look like a city/these people used to talk to me." Methinks the whole part about being caught in his shadow's about trying to break free from everyone else's past expectations and impressions of him, even though he's in the same place.

(For anyone that read the Hardware forum, this album's what I was referring to: Never Loved Elvis. Thankfully, this song was a pretty big hit for them, so it was on a singles collection I found later.)

Artist: The Postal Service
Song: Nothing Better
Album: Give Up

Not the same song as Thougthless previously mentioned, but same band/album that I recommended to him.

This song.... *checks itunes* I've listened to it 145 times in a span of a week or so.
I'm just completely hooked on it. The lyrics are amazing, the beat is delicious, and the band overall is something I can't get enough of. They're easy to relate to, they have a great sound, I just love them to death. I wish they'd make another album.

This song makes it hard for me to get angry or stressed or anything. I'm just, happyyyyy.
