"Tarot Woman" by Rainbow

One of my favorite songs in the entire world. The opening is just amazing with the synth and the creeping crescendo of a guitar. I love that band so much. I love Dio, Ritchie, and Cozy.

"Mr. Brightside" by The Killers

I really like this song, but I didn't always used to. The first time I heard it I thought it was pretty bad, actually. What's funny about it is that I was talking to Amanda at the time, and she was the one who sent the song to me. My telling her I thought it was just ok started her off on a rant that ended up having her blocking me...again...she tended to block me over weird things only to unblock me again not too long later. And this song was one of them.

Artist: Eels
Album: Beautiful Freak
Song: Novocaine For The Soul

Sion recommened this artist to me awhile back. Just started listening to them. I am enjoying the music and the lyrics. The vocals are good. Not great, but they don't fail horribly. The song sets me in a calm mood, not depressive nor angry it just lets me be and drift.

Fort Minor - Kenji

I suck at giving discriptions, so I'll just post the lyrics.

My father came from Japan in 1905
He was 15 when he immigrated from Japan
He worked until he was able to buy - to actually build a store

Let me tell you the story in the form of a dream,
I don't know why I have to tell it but I know what it means,
Close your eyes, just picture the scene,
As I paint it for you, it was World War II,
When this man named Kenji woke up,
Ken was not a soldier,
He was just a man with a family who owned a store in LA,
That day, he crawled out of bed like he always did,
Bacon and eggs with wife and kids,
He lived on the second floor of a little store he ran,
He moved to LA from Japan,
They called him 'Immigrant,'
In Japanese, he'd say he was called "Issei,"
That meant 'First Generation In The United States,'
When everyone was afraid of the Germans, afraid of the Japs,
But most of all afraid of a homeland attack,
And that morning when Ken went out on the doormat,
His world went black 'cause,
Right there; front page news,
Three weeks before 1942,
"Pearl Harbour's Been Bombed And The Japs Are Comin',"
Pictures of soldiers dyin' and runnin',
Ken knew what it would lead to,
Just like he guessed, the President said,
"The evil Japanese in our home country will be locked away,"
They gave Ken, a couple of days,
To get his whole life packed in two bags,
Just two bags, couldn't even pack his clothes,
Some folks didn't even have a suitcase, to pack anything in,
So two trash bags is all they gave them,
When the kids asked mom "Where are we goin'?"
Nobody even knew what to say to them,
Ken didn't wanna lie, he said "The US is lookin' for spies,
So we have to live in a place called Manzanar,
Where a lot of Japanese people are,"
Stop it don't look at the gunmen,
You don't wanna get the soldiers wonderin',
If you gonna run or not,
'Cause if you run then you might get shot,
Other than that try not to think about it,
Try not to worry 'bout it; bein' so crowded,
Someday we'll get out, someday, someday.

As soon as war broke out
The F.B.I. came and they just come to the house and
"You have to come"
"All the Japanese have to go"
They took Mr. Ni
People didn't understand
Why did they have to take him?
Because he's an innocent laborer

So now they're in a town with soldiers surroundin' them,
Every day, every night look down at them,
From watch towers up on the wall,
Ken couldn't really hate them at all;
They were just doin' their job and,
He wasn't gonna make any problems,
He had a little garden with vegetables and fruits that,
He gave to the troops in a basket his wife made,
But in the back of his mind, he wanted his families life saved,
Prisoners of war in their own damn country,
What for?
Time passed in the prison town,
He wanted them to live it down when they were free,
The only way out was joinin' the army,
And supposedly, some men went out for the army, signed on,
And ended up flyin' to Japan with a bomb,
That 15 kilotonne blast, put an end to the war pretty fast,
Two cities were blown to bits; the end of the war came quick,
Ken got out, big hopes of a normal life, with his kids and his wife,
But, when they got back to their home,
What they saw made them feel so alone,
These people had trashed every room,
Smashed in the windows and bashed in the doors,
Written on the walls and the floor,
"Japs not welcome anymore."
And Kenji dropped both of his bags at his sides and just stood outside,
He, looked at his wife without words to say,
She looked back at him wiping tears away,
And, said "Someday we'll be okay, someday,"
Now the names have been changed, but the story's true,
My family was locked up back in '42,
My family was there it was dark and damp,
And they called it an internment camp

When we first got back from camp... uhh
It was... pretty... pretty bad

I, I remember my husband said
"Are we gonna stay 'til last?"
Then my husband died before they close the camp.

No! Bad, BAD Lord Rahl! (whaps on nose with a rolled-up newspaper) At least make an effort, ya know, like talking about the lyrics reflecting Mike Shinoda's family's past or somethin'.

np: Royksopp: "Follow My Ruin"

They've allegedly moved in a more commercially viable direction on this album, and I can kind of see that. Even though the song really apes 80's synth-pop more than anything else. There's a couple of synth lines (one which gets highlighted at about the 1:53 mark) as well as the super-reverbed tom toms that scream, well, maybe 1983? But it's in a decidedly good way.

I've got my best of Tom Waits mix out again.

Right now I'm listening to one of his bizzare throaty tunes about Istanbul. I've always loved Telephone Call from Istanbul, it is just a lyrical romp through the weird of his mind.

Artist: Avenged Sevenfold
Album: City of Evil
Song: Trashed and Scattered

I just started listening to Avenged Sevenfold about 2 weeks ago. So far, all I've heard is City of Evil, though I've been told it is very different from their eariler stuff. Usually I don't like metally-ish stuff, but AS has some cool guitar parts thrown in that I really like, as well as the lyrics. It's uncanny how well the lyrics fit some of my characters [and my personality at times]- probably the biggest reason I listen to them.

The Strokes - Ize of the World

From their latest album, First Impresssions of Earth. I've heard especially good things about this new album and this song is a good reaffirmation of that. It has a nice underlying bass which I like very much. Nothing too spectacular; a nice driving song though.

Another thing I like about it which is very "Strokes-ish" is a sudden end to the song. (see Reptilia, Hard to Explain)

Answers by Faktion

By far one of my favorite songs of all. I love the chorus when the second guitar enters is really amazing. They play rock but have a lot of talent. Not bad for a debut album, GET IT! You won't regret it. I got it the day it dropped (21st) and it hasn't stopped spinning (unless my batteries die ), I love it.

Oh yeah, the song talks about how you tend to expect things to come to you soon, but if your patient everything will unfold on its own.

Sex In A Pan by Bela Fleck & The Flecktones

This is a kind of fusion/funk song that's pretty laid back, with the main melody carried by the soprano sax. Really good bass groove later in the song, Les Claypool has nothing on Victor Wooten. Most of The Flecktones' music sounds like it could come right out of an old Sonic The Hedgehog game .

Sumer Is Icumen In - Richard Thompson

This is the oldest round in the English Language, a simple little song about summer coming. It's from his album/tour 1000 Years of Popular Music where he and his accoustic guitar and some other support musicians play through popular music of all ages. He said "The idea for this project came from Playboy Magazine - I was asked to submit a list, in late 1999, of the ten greatest songs of the Millennium. Hah! I thought, hypocrites - they don't mean millennium, they mean twenty years - I'll call their bluff and do a real thousand-year selection."

He starts with this song, plays through things like miner songs and Italian operettes and old blues numbers, and ends with a bizzarely good cover of "Oops... I Did It Again" which somehow just WORKS in this context, rendered with his guitar and vocals.

The End - RoadRunner Untied

God, I love this song. I have listened to it non-stop for the past 2 days and it doesn't start sounding old or anything (or maybe I'm just insane ). But the song is done by a couple members of RR Records, all I can remember are Matt Heafy (Trivium) on Vocals, no guitar and Dino Cazares (ex-Fear Factory) on guitars. But this song rocks but at the same time its also pretty soft. Matt actually sings on it and I really like his vioce especially with the keyboards in the background.

Anyways listen to it here for yourself (legally btw )

Album: In An Aeroplane Over The Sea
Song: Two Headed Boy

This is one of my favorite albums ever, it's a shame that the band broke up afterwards. Everybody who's into alternative/indie at all should give it a listen.

Band: Streetlight Manifesto
Song: Day in Day out
Album: Keasbey Nights [originally by Catch 22]

This album was re-done by Streetlight, as it 'should have been done the first time'. I love listening to SM and Catch 22 because their songs are so uplifting [to me, anyway], probably because of how fast-paced they are and all the brass. This song is basically about being yourself and not caring about what other people say, or how they complain. Also about how sometimes when you give people advice, they brush it off or disagree and keep complaining for the sake of avoiding the problem. Baaaaaaah such a good album!

Try getting this out of your head:

Green Day: Holiday.
Yep, I still love this band (I wonder who doesn't?) Anyway, it's hard to believe that it's part of the hour-long album that's also a rock opera. Top line: "The represenitive from California has the floor."
