So, right now I have a volunteer job at my local library once a week which I enjoy, but I don't have a paying job just yet. The thing I usually do there is sign people up for the reading program the library is holding now, but I also pack books into crates, and do various odd things whenever I have a free moment. Sometimes I get to do nothing at all, which isn't as fun as it seems; it's rather boring.

I'm wondering though; what's the general job-spread of Acmlm's Board? Are we a community of slackers or workers?

I hope I included every valid option in this poll... my last one went terribly.

I work a part-time job, but it's borderline full-time now that it's summer. But during the school year, definitely part-time. I work 20-25 hours a week during school, and 25-35 during summer.

My job (I think I've said this a hundred times!) is at an ice cream store, where I serve the customers, make some pretty crazy creations, make ice cream, make ice cream cakes, make waffle cones, and keep everything looking clean. I enjoy the job, but my manager pisses me off... she owns and manages 4 stores, and she can't really handle it when it's the busy summer. She doesn't have enough workers, and therefore depends on me far too much to run the store I work at, we're constantly low on supplies and ice cream because she doesn't pay enough attention to order more cups/spoons when we're running out, and doesn't have the time to make more ice cream... heck, even our checks are late this week because she forgot to turn in the payroll. Argh.
But hey, I'm making above minimum wage salary + tips, so I'm happy. The job isn't too demanding, and it's ice cream!

Part-time at a bar. I used to be an assitant manager at Hot Topic.

I go to work around 6pm during weekdays and 9:30pm on weekends. I take people's orders, give them food/beer and work the register. I run into alot of freaks every shift. Some drunk people will cry and act weird. I make sure people don't kill eachother in there since I'm the biggest.

I currently have no job, but I'm supposed to be volunteering (school requirement). I have yet to find a good volunteering job-thing yet, though.

I was working a part-time job last weekend, my first weekend but I quit as soon as my "work week" ended (which was three days)

The job was asking putting a bit too much stress on my body (Skinny, small frame type of body)

So as for the moment I'm unemployed.

"Permanent" status, full-time Government employee. Generally 9-5 most days, but 10-6 on two days a week, where I'm on the "late shift" and have to cover the last hour of our telephone availability schedule.

Today wasn't a late shift day so I had to be up early

Nope and I'm not sure when I'm going to get a job. The good news is I have some time to try prioritize things, the bad news is that pickings are really slim at the moment.

I got two part times right now.
First one is doing mail, 9am-1pm, second one's doing research, 2pm-6pm. It's almost full time but the pay is attrocious ($5 for the first, $7.50 for the second). And to think, if the hardware store I used to work at didn't get sold I'd be making $15 an hour, how great would that have been, and it would've been 50+ hours a week, damn.

Worked at Wal-mart a while back as one of the store "bitches"... and quit one day to go watch a playoff football game. Haven't been back in the employment world since, but I need one with college coming in a month. x__X

I volunteer part-time at a friend's bookstore: mostly doing cleanup, shelf re-organization and a wee bit of customer service.

Also currently looking for a "real" job to pay the unavoidable bills college will be inflicting on me this fall.

I work at a place called Steve and Barry's been there almost a year. Some of you prolly know what it is, its a clothing store where everything is $7.98 or less.

And customers like to make a huge mess while in the store. So when you shop learn to clean up after yourself.

More info here: Steve and Barry's Website.

I work at MCI (now Verizon Business) full time as a communications assistant/relay operator. I've been there for almost a year. It's for deaf people; a person using something like a teletext typewriter (TTY) can dial into the service and call someone who just speaks with their voice and listens with their ears on a telephone and I relay the messages in the conversation back and forth between the 2 users: I speak for the text user and type for the voice user. It can get boring after a while, and the service is often abused by pranksters and scammers (both groups suck), but it pays well, and it's decent for getting through college, so as XK says, it's "meh."

No job. I work my tail off during the school year and spend summer recouperating as it is.

I plan on applying to a few book stores, music stores, and electronics stores soon though. Getting a job in a book store would be awesome. I'm undiagnosed, but known as being obsessive compulsive, so organizing books alphabetically and by type and keeping records sounds like a load of fun to me.

I wouldn't even mind secretarial work, so long as I got to organize something
